2006 MDX or 2008 RDX, which is better for driving in Hurricane Irene?

My wife owns a 2008 RDX and I have a 2006 MDX. I have to travel down to Hampton Roads Va. this weekend when Irene is supposed to hit and am wondering which car to take. Would either car be more safe over the other? I am initially thinking the RDX due to the SH-AWD.

Any input would be appreciated.

stay home. really....i hope its really important for you to be going down there in the middle of a hurricane.

since you say you HAVE to go...i'd go with the RDX-SHAWD, be sure to load up on supplies in the event something happens. be careful out there.

Thanks TLtrigirl. It's a good friends wedding, so we'll see. I just assume stay home.

If you have to go, I would play it safe and try to get a hotel or motel and arrive a few days early.

But, if you do end up driving in a hurricane, just go with whichever car has better/newer tires. All things equal though, I'd take the MDX.

i'd contact your friends to make sure the wedding is actually going to take place. you'd be taking 95 most of the way...and in typical fashion, that's the line of demarcation for bad conditions and worse.

hell i'm trying to decide if i park the TL on saturday in the parking garage at work to get through the worst of it that's suppose to hit sat night into sun morning.

All of the vendors cancelled for the wedding! That's good news (and smart) personal safety is more important. Don't have to go. Thanks guys.

I would take the MDX. It is higher off the ground, has bigger tires, and has a lockable rear differential with the automatic vtm4 4wd. You also wouldn't want the rdx to suck up water with the turbo. Anyway the best solution would be not to drive.

I was going to suggest you reach out and verify that the wedding was in fact still on for this weekend. I continued on reading the thread and saw this. Pretty much everything is being canceled / moved for safety sake.
