2005 MDX Engine Light, keeps going back to mechanic
Hi,
My MDX has 150K miles, and has been nothing but excellent, hence its a keeper so far. Have had it since new.
A while ago the check engine light came on and Acura told me I needed a new Cat Converter ($1800). I shopped around, but decided not to change yet as there were no issues with emissions.
At 145K I decided to go ahead and fix the Engine Light once and for all. This time I took it to a Honda dealership, as Acura was overcharging me for everything. At Honda they said that the Catalyst was fine. They did a tune up, changed plugs, reset valves...took home and after 2 days the CEL came back on. took it back, they recommended a Carbon Induction, did that....lasted 2 days again.....replaced Coil packs....2 days and back on again.
I'm getting to the point of F*^% the CEL and just carry on. Car runs fine, except that I feel like the transmission slips from time to time, as if the engine was a bit out of synch (slight loss of power).
And the VTM-4 light also comes one from time to time, but no related fault code.
What else can I suggest they check?
Thanks,
David

we need to know what code the car is throwing. Starts with the letter P followed by 4 digits.
Once we know that code, we can begin to trouble shoot.
you can see the dealer tried to troubleshoot, but gave up and starting throwing parts at the car, without knowing the real reason.

I called Honda and they did not record the fault codes (really??). I'm taking it back "for the weekly troubleshoot" this Friday and will ask for the fault codes.
