Are there any major problems with the 01-03 03 mainly MDX I have a 2002 tl type s which are known for the tranny issues any major problems with the mdx Im lookin at an 03 pushing 140k for just under 10k should i look elsewhere

I see problems on here about the navigation any other problems??
anything i should focus mainly on with warranty

can you let me know the major problems how long mdx's last before there used up all answers are appreciated

'01-'02 had the same tranny issue as the 2g TLs. A new compact tranny was introduced on the '03 and up.

There is a problem of water getting into the passenger side footwell, due to a cracked seal(due to age) behind the fender toward the firewall. I have that problem!

I have heard of nav issues, but mine is a non-nav Touring, so I can't comment on that one.

thanks any other issues with 03 touring does it have a drop down dvd screen for kids to watch movies in the back or only the screen up front that only plays dvd audio??

what should i be looking for on carfax for replacement such as timing belt water pump and are there any major problems with 03 mdx I was told that there trannys were updated in 03 and that 01-02 had tranny problems
all feedback is highly appreciated

also does the tourning have a screen in the back so that kids can watch movies because I understand that the screen in the front will not allow you to watch video but only hear the audio??

While I have no experience with an MDX, my family has had many Acuras with few to no problems. I personally had a CL which was pushing 300K when my sister totaled it but there were no problems at all with the car. We just did tires, oil, and timing belts at 100K with nothing going wrong

Edit - I can't imagine spending much on a car with 138K tho, who knows if they kept up with service

I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as service is up to date.

My aunt has a 03 with about 110K, my mom's 04 MDX has 115K. My Tl has 249K and my RL has 133K....I don't worry about mileage in these cars as long as the maintenance is done.

Transmission problems were on 01-02, 03 got a new trans.


I've seen 02-03 MDX's for sale with 200K+ miles still going for 7-8K

Yea, as long as the maintenence records are there, its worth a shot. They are fairly solid, other than little issues. I have also heard of a few 200k MDXs and one guy who had a 02 with 280k. If you want Rear DVD, you'll need to find a Touring model with RES(Rear Entertainment System).

I have a MDX 2003, I replace the tranny in 2009 the tork converter was shot (new tranny $3k). The Navi DVD went out in 2010 - Alpine fixed it for $150.00. Replace the shocks in 2009, struts still holding well. The left passenger power window stopped working, appears to be a short in the wiring as it occasionally works after opening the door fully. The front lamps lenses are starting to dull. Has ~123k miles and lots of small dents but drives like a dream.
