White Diamond Pearl vs Tateffa White

Hey guys, I went to Canadian tire and they claim they only have tateffa white in the dupli colour spray cans for Honda and I went to their paint aisle and checked, they only have tateffa, but my car is white diamond pearl.
I'm looking to self paint my front lip.
How off would those colours look if I paint my front lip tateffa while the rest of the car is while diamond pearl?

Firstly its TAFFETA

Secondly if you have to ask about two different colors matching than honestly you don't have any knowledge about how to correctly paint something and you shouldn't even try to do it yourself.

In 6 months your lip is going to look like shit

On the G forums a member is posting up his front lip for free. Why? Here's is a quote from his black market ad.

Hello all,

About 1 or 2 months ago I got a good deal on ebay for a non-oem front lip for my non-sport G37 sedan (I only paid $70). Then I bought the matching paint from automotivetouchup and painted it myself. However, being an amateur I didn't do a good job at painting. Now the paint is chipping off very easily. I do not want to repaint the lip myself nor do I want to pay the bodyshop do it because they ask for ~$300 to repaint it. I decided to order a painted one from an infiniti dealer. With that being said, I'm giving away my old front lip once I get the new one. Whoever wants it just has to pay for shipping
Looks like you're going to be following in his foot steps

i agree with quang about color matching haha
OP if you do go forward with the project, make sure to do some reading!

i'd say, nobody is pro the first time

plus he's in Canada. that fact alone, I could easily sell my used 5 year old front lip for 300 just because shipping and currency conversion sucks.

you'll have stories like on the "G forum" like the one posted, and you'll have stories like my friend EddieonAZ who painted his front lip AND hood himself with rattle cans.

not too shabby....

then you have dad lol
im proud of him, painted full lip kit himself

mom sent me these pics and said "dad did a new project" haha

point is, you never know until you try.
that's experience for you

EddieOnAZ's one is clean though, and honestly, one of the best jobs I've seen from someone doing rattle can.

Thanks for the motivation!
Reason i want to paint myself is because I'm a crafty sort of guy, I like my fair share of DIY projects.
Plus I don't really want to dish out 150-200$ to paint my front lip professionally.
I understand there are risks associated to self painting but I guess in willing to give it a try.
I found a white pearl dupli colour can for Toyota. Saw two pics of a Toyota Camry beside a white diamond pearl TL. They both have a shiny white colour to them so I will use that paint instead of the tafetta white!
I'll update you guys once I begin!

Lots of paint jobs look good from 30 feet away. Any close ups of the rattle can job?

My brother has a white camry. 2009 model. The white on the camry doesnt match the white Diamond pearl.

White Diamond pearl has a slight gold color to it compared to the camry white.

My G is white (moonlight white) and the camry is even whiter.

Honda Taffeta white doesn't have a clear coat, its garbage paint IMO. If your paint is diamond white which is a clear coated paint, that's what you need to match it properly. What you should do is see if a paint shop in your area can order you a pint of the proper paint.

It's not supposed to have clear coat in it. Clear coat is a separate layer you put on top of the cured paint, unless, of course, you buy some shitty paint that is 2-in-1.

100% agreed. There's no way the "orange peel" of a rattle can job will ever match oem paint. Sure, from 20-30 feet away it looks good, but any closer and

Also lucky that the color actually matches. Shops don't just apply a color. They blend it and work with it to make it match the rest of the oem paint.

No close up shots, parents live 6 hours away and eddieonaz lives 2 hours away.

I think it goes without saying that the finish won't be like a spray gun
But believe me, you can get it pretty damn close.

I'm pretty picky with detail myself, as some already know.

My dad gets the paint mixed at a body shop, I believe eddieonaz does the same.

I once painted a Honda Prelude lip at home with cans. It was a pearl white as well. I had the cans mixed at napa. I had 3 cans in total: base coat, pearl coat and clear coat. It was also most as expensive as going to a shop. It held up ok, but the problem is flex. Shops can ad a flex additive that lets the paint bend with the plastic. Just go to a shop.

Go to a Sherwin-Williams auto paint center, KOI, or similar and give them the paint code for WDP and they will mix up a can or rattle can for you. Hopefully they can add a flex agent, if not I would have it professionally painted.

Rattle can jobs can look good, but you have to have the patience and put in the time...it's all in the prep work.

WDP is a very unique color. Acura has trouble even themselves trying to match up the mirrors, bumpers and aspec kits. Why would you think a totally different paint code would work?

Look at those classic and common metallic Lexus and Cadillac whites you see everywhere. Look the same as WDP? Not even close. White is not "white". There are 100s of shades of it and different metallics in the mix.

Since my car ended up on this thread, here's my 2cents:

I wonldn't do my whole hood again, it did the job (rust is gone) but you can most definitely tell it's a rattle can job. I was quoted over $1k at the time for a shop to do it so I still saved a shit load of money there.

The front lip though? I'd do it again, it's a pretty small surface so there's almost no way to screw it up. Worst case, you start over and you wasted 30$ worth of paint.

Don't use duplicolor though, have a paint shop mix the paint for you using your paint code, it's gonna be a lot better than duplicolor stuff. You should also use better clear coat than canadian tire stuff.

How would you get it to match? Even with the same color, paint on plastic bumper will look different than the same paint on the metal car panels, hence you see most of the acuras, CGP, WDP, etc have a slight offset with the bumper colors compared to the rest of the car
