Timing belt and Water Pump replacement

Other than the code 4 in maintenance, is there any other factor to consider when deciding to change the water pump and timing belt? My 08 TL is at 57000 miles and the dealer recommended doing the replacement. Is it really recommended to be done at 50+ K miles. I was always under the impression that this is done over 100K miles. Thanks

Dealer recommended doing an expensive maintenance thus giving them money?! Color me shocked!!

Generally people recommend TB changes on ~7years OR ~105K miles but you can always just follow the MID.

Dealer recommended I do the same thing on my '08 last time I got my oil changed. When I asked why he said just because it was 7 years old. I'm also curious if I should do this before 105k as my car is only sitting at 70k now so the timing belt will probably be 10 years old before the MID tells me to change it.

the owners manual doesnt include a date but it does say to change it out sooner if you live in an extreme climate.

Xtreme heat!
Xtreme cold!

Hmmm ?
I also need to do this.
2007 TL Type-S 89K miles.
I found a great Kit on Amazon that uses all OEM parts except the TB-
That's a Mitsubishi for $205. I know 2 guys who do this on the side
"Honda-Acura" mechanics- but not sure due to no warranty on their work ?
I have read many posts here on AZ with their Acura dealers charging
From $600-$1000 total for the 105K service.
I went to the closest Acura Dealer near me 3 days ago-"Libertyville, IL.
They quoted me $1,450 !!!!!!!!!!! HELL NO. Now I am considering doing
It myself.

Wondering how much time I have left ???
I never like pushing anything. Low on $ Now.

And you guys said "IF" I live in a extreme Climate.
Yes- here in Far North IL....

But--My car was owned (1-owner) From 2007-Nov 2012 in Houston TX.
2 winters here- Extreme Climate. HOT - COLD...

If the car is driven regularly in -20 or 110 or over degree weather, then change at 60k miles. Your interpretation of regular might be different than mine....

There's not an inhabited location in North American that meets the severe conditions. I'd just stick with the MID. There are several 04 and 05 TL members on this board that still have yet to reach a "4" on the MID and they've had no issues.

Would I wait 15 years before changing the TB? Probably not. At that age, the tensioner is just as likely to fail as the belt. And if the tensioner goes, so does the belt.

you only change the TB/WP if your TB tensioner went bad like mine, however if everything is good then you can ignore the dealer BS recommendation. "SCARE" is the popular tatics they used to get you move over the new car sale department.

Why would you recommend to wait until a part fails and than get it done?

Do you wait until your battery dies and than you replace it?

Wait until the car runs out of gas and stalls out than fill it up?

The answer depends on the part.

The AISIN TKH-002 TB Kit is on sale @ Amazon for $189.
But it comes with a Mitsubishi TB made in Thailand.
Wondering if the GATES T286 TB is better.

I'll do the belts and tensioners ('07 and '08) once they hit 70 +, but you can look at the belt (... always been told if it has small cracks/dry rot or is browning = change it sooner than later).

As for the water pump, if my '97 civic (185,000 and counting) is an indicator, just keep an eye on the temp gage (never did... still original... just listen for noise and watch the drive way for water...)

'... if it ain't broke, don't fix it / just relax and let it flow...'
