What happens is... if you press the unlock button on your keyfob, and then you forget.... and you never open the door, then the car will relock itself, I believe it's somewhere between 15-30 seconds.

I'm pretty sure this same behavior is present in the TLX

Every Acura I've had locks itself after 30 sec or so if you close the door and take the key.

Really? I've never seen this in any manuals and I've left my TL unlocked for more than 30 seconds several times when taking in groceries... I'll have to test it again but I've never heard of this.

I just tried it on a 2012 TL Tech... it didn't lock itself. Mine at least will only lock itself if I've unlocked it and did not open the door.

on the tech package the TLX will lock itself if you forget and walk away. you can set the delay at 30,60,or 90 seconds. If the fob is left in the car, the doors will not lock.

WRONG !

No matter which package it has, the TLX will NOT lock all doors by itself, when the driver exits the car with the key fob.

To lock doors (and arm the security system), the driver either has to press the button on the outside door handle, or has to press the lock button on the key fob, or has to use the physical key to turn the mechanical door lock.

The 30/60/90 seconds delay timer is the "relock timer setting".

It is used if a door is not opened within 30/60/90 seconds after unlocking the car with the key fob, then the doors will automatically relock by themselves.

In fact, no Acura vehicle to date (including the new RLX/MDX/TLX) has the ability to lock all doors, without the driver having to press button telling the car to do so.

Ok. My salesman misinformed me then. I will check out this feature when I get off work and see for myself.

ONLY if you press the unlock button on the fob will the doors automatically lock 30 sec later.

All Honda's and Acura's from at least the 2000 model year operate this way. Some of the newer ones allow you to set either 30, 60 or 90 seconds before it re-locks, but none of them give the option to shut this feature off, nor does it allow you to set it to lock by itself without hitting a button on the fob first.

I hear ya,
I checked the feature and Edward'TLS is correct. Oh well, I lock my cars with the fob every time anyway so it doesn't matter.

I think we are not all talking about the same feature. If my 2012 TL's doors are locked, then I press the unlock button on the fob, then not open the door, after about 30 sec, all the doors will lock themselves again.

Is that what you guys are asking? Or are you asking if the car is smart enough to lock itself while you walk away? The answer to the latter is no....and why would it?!? That would be annoying as shit.

That would be annoying, indeed. I park my car in my garage at night.. no need to lock the car.

I wouldn't want my car to lock itself if I forget. I mean, that would be nice, but what if I want to leave it unlocked when I leave? It would indeed becoming annoying.

Well, my CTS does that. It also automatically unlocks the doors when I pull the handle from outside. Which means I never have to take my key fob out of my pocket.

I'm guessing the TLX won't automatically unlock the doors with pressing the disarm button, either. Does the RLX offer this, or is it not found in any Acuras?

Looking to replace my CTS in a couple more years and I've decided I'm done with GM. Didn't care for the 4th gen TL, but this new TLX has caught my attention again.

As long as the fob is within 32" of the doors, the car will unlock w/ a pull on the door handle. The car will lock w/ a press of the button on the door handle (front only for US, front or rear for Canada).

We're talking about the doors locking automatically... if you turn off the car and then leave the car without pressing any buttons to lock it. Which appears to not be the case for the TLX... However Acura's do offer a keyless system and have for quite some time now (it's now standard on all models). There's a touch sensitive lining on the back of the door handles... when the doors are locked, touch the back of the door handles and the car unlocks (you'll hear two beeps). Then there is a button on the front of the door handles... with the car unlocked, press the button on the handle and the car will lock (you'll hear one beep). You don't have to use your key for anything... it just needs to be on you (in your pocket) in very close proximity of the vehicle and your body. Other features of the key, if you accidentally put the key in the trunk and you close the trunk.... the car will beep several times then the trunk will pop open. You can also open all the windows and sunroof with the key by pressing the unlock button once, then holding it down.

I loved that feature on my 3G TL and use it extensively in the summer. Found that my wife's MB C-class has it but it requires line of sight from the remote to the drivers side door handle. Score up 1 more point for Acura.

This also works on the non-tech package. If you go into vehicle settings, there is a setting for auto-lock and the delay time until it locks the doors.. as long as the key fob isn't still in the car.

With the Q50, there is an app to see if the car is locked or not. If it's unlocked, you can lock the car using the app no matter where you are.

It will also notify you if the alarms goes off. etc. etc.

Guys, unless the TLX is the FIRST Acura to offer auto-locking with no driver intervention, the information provided is incorrect.

If this is like all Acuras since remote FOBs became standard, it will auto RE-lock if unlocked with the remote AND a door is not opened. This used to be fixed at 20 seconds but is now selectable for 30, 60 and 90.

If someone with the car tells me, " I get what you're saying but the TLX auto-locks when I finish driving and walk away with NO FURTHER intervention from me", I'll eat my virtual hat...

But when someone starts reviving the dead "Franken horse" by supplying incorrect information, it is crucial to correct his/her mistakes.

People come in this forum to look for CORRECT information, not INCORRECT ones.

Probably done on purpose so that people don't lock their keys in.

Unfortunately, after those 2 dozen times of corrections, incorrect information is posted once again in Post #25.

That's why incorrect information needs to be CORRECTED one more time, without confusing all those unsuspecting newcomers who visit this forum, looking for CORRECT information.

Good point... With the new Acura Link App, you should be able to lock/unlock the car via your phone as long as you have a current subscription to Acura Link after the free trial period has expired.
