Driver's Axle Trouble

I was trying to install my driver's side axle, but couldn't get it to seat in all the way.

Unfortunately when trying to get it in, a small circular spring came out. I'm guessing it's part of the axle seal in the transmission case? If I replace the axle seal, will I be ok?

I ask this because I also found a similar spring on the crankshaft when I did my rear main seal, but the new rear main seal didn't seam to have one. Maybe it's normally inside the RMS, and I pushed it out when I removed the old RMS?

Whoops, it's not called an axle seal. It's the transmission output seal.

Anyone had to replace it? I'm having trouble finding the part number.

I though that was it too, but I noticed that the parts diagram lists that only 1 is required for the car. Looking at the transmission, it looks like there is a seal on both sides of the output. One for each driveshaft.

Hmm, I guess I'll buy the seal and find out.

Yup, that was the seal. The new one came with the spring inside of it.

Yea, the shop that cleaned the threads did a really good job. He told me there aren't many threads left, but thankfully the bolts tightened down.

I didn't torque it all the way down to OEM specs, but it should be good.

Hopefully they wont bind at WOT
