oh snap oil jey kit

Hey everyone i own a 2003 tl type s aspec
I purchased the car this year and in the service record it says an oil jet kit was installed.
Can someone explain exactly what this is please???
Also do you think that using royal purple or lucas will help my transmission??? Im thinking this because my transmission shifts hard into reverse and sometimes slips at second
...........very stressful

oil jet kit was a recall install external oiler for a specific place in the trans that was overheating and breaking- bad news at 70mph
that does not solve the problem with 2nd and 3rd gear clutchpacks
Sounds like yours may be going out- how many miles?

Get to the dealer and meet the service manager, ask if he or the head tech can take a quick spin with you to see if its trans failure

there is a special 7year+9month/ 109kmiles warranty on the trans for usa cars-
some late year production 03 are not `listed VIN` but can get Goodwill from acura- they know the prob was not fixed --it was just a court case cutoff number

read the last few pages of the Tranny Failure thread for best advice

Good luck and welcome

Tou can pop the hood and look where your ATF filler bolt is to see if there is a oil jet kit stuck in it!

look right behind the air intake tube (but befor the strut tower brace) on the driver side and it is on top of the tranny; to be a little more descriptive of where it is located

he has one - it doesnt matter to know where it is

as far as I know: canada is screwed on this one- godwill is for usa but there may be carryover to you from the court case that got the special 7 year warranty

Go talk to the local dealer and ask exactly what the warranty is for you

goodwill is acura putting up some of the cost- up to half in most cases and you pay a few hundred in best case- again i cant say about canada

Unfortunately what you said is true and the transmission is bad I wish I could return the car because I bought it from a private seller and it seemed to be checked out. Im scared now gotta play the wait game.

Hey bashir, let me know how your battle goes with the tranny and hopefully goodwill replacement from Acura. Just picked up an A-spec last week from a trade in at a local acura dealership at 135K km. So far so good. Ran the VIN and no mention of an oiler kit, only 2nd gear transmission assesment (I assume it was good, as their was no mention of a replacement)! I'm in Canada also and the dealership already told me that my VIN was out of range. I already have some cash set aside knowing about the trans issue, but couldn't pass up on the car as it was a really good deal. Good luck to us!

the 2nd gear assessment was part of the trans oil kit recall install
They used a boroscope exam of 2nd gear parts for heat damage- if none- then oiler kit installed- If damage found then trans replaced

Simply look under the hood at trans to know if its been installed!
Doesnt have anything to do with the main failure issue of clutchpack wearout

It sprays a 'jet' of transmission fluid (oil) onto certain clutch packs and gears that were overheating and failing. Really just a permanent band-aid for a faulty transmission design.

Actually NO. It sprays fluid onto the 2nd gear shaft to keep it cool. It has nothing to do with the 3rd gear clutchpacks, nor was it designed to. Its purpose works and keeps the 2nd gear shaft from overheating and breaking. Which is what the RECALL is for and nothing to do with the 3rd gear failure and the 107k warranty extension is for

Thanks for the clarification, but I think I got the sentiment right in answering the question: "what is it for?". As you have pointed out, the faulty design is the 2nd gear shaft overheating, and the permanent band-aid is the oil jet kit.
