Stock amp issue
Hi guys,
I've been gone for a while, and needing to start a new project and could use some help. I'm wanting to change to a better, bigger amp, but cannot put it where the stock amp is. I am looking to move the cable from the head unit going to the amp, but it is just long enough to reach the stock amp. Does anyone know where the cable runs, I am assuming I could get to it if I take out the back seat, but didn't notice it there when I had the seat out before. Also, don't know if it is bolted down anywhere or if it will actually pull back if it is under the rear seat. Thanks in advance!

The stock amp is in the trunk. It's been many years since I saw it, but I think it was somewhere on the right hand side of the trunk. You may have to pull the dark liner off in order to see it.

Thank you for taking the time to read and answer my thread. I actually know where the amp is, my question is where the cable going to the amp runs. I have actually been able to change things and am going to mount my new amp where the stock one is, with a little modifying. Still have to work the cable out, but have a good idea thanks to some helpful people on here!

If I understand you correctly, you are looking to find out what path the cable that attaches to the amp follows in the car. Sorry, I don't remember that. We ended up tapping the signal from the cable/ wiring harness that runs to the amp from the head unit close to the head unit and took the signal from there because I was installing an eq and auxillary port. LOL We did ninety percent of the wiring but didn't finish the job. Kids happened...

I took a look in helms, but couldn't see any diagram with the audio wiring cable. The only thing I could see was the antenna that runs down the centre and then turns ninety degrees to the outside on the passenger side and then turns ninety degrees and runs to the trunk area. Not sure if it is running along ground or higher up.

It runs from the dash down under where the door sill is on passenger side. Then up near the rear seat edge/rear fender area then into trunk.

Replacing CL amp
thanks for the replies. Once I took the panels off and the amp out. I found the cable was clipped in, which made it look short. Once I took the clip out, the cable was long enough for me to work on. I took out the old amp and added a better amp using the cable, cutting the end off, that was already there. Once I did it worked, but ran into another issue. The wires for 12vdc and ground are around 24 gauge (really small) and is not giving me a good ground or letting the amp power up enough. I get good sound, but not loud. I bought new wire for ground and power, but I'm having trouble finding a good power source without having to take about my center council. I found on the passenger side fuse box a fuse for the radio, but can't get to the back of the fuse to tie in. Does anyone know if there is a place on the passenger side fuse area that has constant 12vdc I could tie into? This would be the easiest because I then only have to run the wire under the door trim, back panel trim and I'm at the amp. I have poked around some with my meter, but have not found anything and don't have a wiring diagram. Again, any help would be great!! Thanks

If you are using an aftermarket AMP, there isnt a wire in the car you should be powering it with. You NEED to connect it to the battery directly (with an inline fuse) and attach the ground to a metal point/bolt in the trunk. Do NOT try to attach it to any existing power or ground wires in the car.

You'll quickly fry/melt any electrical components connected to that wire. No wire inside the car can handle the amount of power needed by an amp.

thanks for the info guys, helpful. I was trying not to go all the way to the battery, not the easiest to find a spot to bring a wire out of. I already have the wire and fuse, so smart money is go to the battery. I have already planned on adding a new ground, just wanted to do both at the same time. Thanks again.

Thanks for the offer, I might take you up on it. I got sidetracked on other, more pressing issues this weekend but going to try it this week. i did notice on the drivers side by the brake booster, a cable going in with a grommet I could go through, just didn't take a look on the other side of the firewall to see where it comes in. I also thought of taking the center council out and finding the power wire for the radio there and use that wire, seeing it already has a 20A fuse for it.

Hello guys, I was able to find a good position to run a power wire through the firewall and connect power to it. On the passenger side, there is a grommet under the fuse box in the engine compartment. I was able to go through there and then found an open position on the fuse box. I added a 20 amp fuse and connected it there so I didn't have to run to the battery, clean. I had a picture of the fuse box and how I connected, but my phone took a swim and I lost it. Has been working well for a month now...

This picture is very good. The amp is behind the carpet panel in the trunk. To get to the amp, you have to take off the plastic cover by the trunk latch, then take off the fittings on the passenger side to allow you to move the carpet panel out of the way to get to it. You might want to take your jack out of the way as well for more room.
