Took my car to the track.....

2003 6-speed CL type S I/H/E/Pulleys/P2R throttle body spacer/Thermal gasket/Mugen Stat/Fan switch/Cat delete

I have Primewell PZ-900 235/45/17 which are almost bald and shitty hard tires....I have front and rear camber kit and had it professionally alligned not too long ago after I got my coilovers put on...ive noticed in the past week my car has been handling like shit, every bump would shoot me off the road. Just thought it was the shitty tires. One of my friends behind me the other day said my car looked like it was going sideways when i was driving straight, so I said no way i just had it alligned a couple weeks ago..so anyways at Bradenton 1/4 mile track last night I got 1 run then it started raining which was odd because it was 0% chance of rain that day. I bogged at the start then wheel hopped really bad and I ran a 14.084 @ 100.71mph with a 2.351 60' time. Which I thought was pretty good and only means if I brought my 60' to a 2.0 or a 2.1 I would be at around a 13.7 or something like that. I was 2nd up to line when it started sprinkling rain out of nowhere, so they shut the track down which sucked. Just my luck!! So every car at the track left at the same time all heading on to the highway which I knew I would run into a couple races there, and it was dry everywhere it only rained literally at the track which was strange...Now on the highway the first car I ran was an 89 hatch with a swap.....raced to about 115mph and just walked him. Then came a nice SRT-4 Neon that I knew was fast because I seen him run at the track and it looked pretty fast but he showed no time on the board. We raced up to about 130mph and we were DEAD EVEN the whole time, so it was a good race. Still an hour left on the highway until I got home...about halfway home my car started shaking at higher speeds..thought maybe I lost some sticky allignment weights off my rims throwing the balance off, but I heard some weird swooshing noise coming from my rear tires so i slowed it to 60mph until I got to the next gas station to take a look. When I got out at the gas station the first thing I noticed was that my rear tires were EXTREMELY cambered out. It looked like those cars you see slammed on airbags. My front ones were perfectly straight. So I looked at the inside walls on my rear tires with the flashlight and it was just bare metal with no rubber!! My passenger rear tire was even more cambered than the driver rear tire! Thats why my car handled like crap for the past week and drove sideways!! As soon as I seen how bad it looked I looked at my friend and said that they are about to blow any second. So I had another 15min drive home but kept it under 40mph and figured I would be fine. Now 5 min from my house a strange looking animal crossed the road in front of me, so pointed him out to my friend and said "look, its a Chupacabra crossing the road!"lol As soon as I said that we heard the loudest explosion that shook my whole car and scared us to death! Obviously one of my tires blew. So I had to limp back home doing 5 mph. Now think about it, I obviously have someone up above watching over me that sent that rain cloud to the track telling me that its time to get home. That track stays open until 2am, so I would of defintely had about 5-8 more runs by the end of the night blowing my tire at the track doing 100 + mph. I would of been the only 14 sec CL-S to ever slam a wall at a track..and if it didnt happen there for sure it would of happed on the way back racing that Neon at 130mph, then I would'nt be here posting this, I would probably be dead..So now its time I order my 18x9.5 + 15 silver RPF1's....with Nitto 555 tires. Also the first thing im doing is going back to Goodyear and having them re-align my car. They had to of forgot to tighten the nuts on the kit. I'll look under my car later and check it out. So at least I can say that my car ran a flat 14 going sieways down the track....

wow crazy story! those rpf1's will be hard to fit! i rub in the rear with my rpf1's 18x8 +35, rolled fenders, shaved tabs. But i didn't go down in tire size.

Whats your tire size? Now you got me worried...also what rubs? Is it the height of your tire that rubs?

i have 235/40/18. 9.5 +15 will sit out another 1.5inches from mine. Those will be hard to fit. I have to shave a bit of my bumper and they shouldn't rub anymore.

here's a pic of how they sit.

Thanks for the pic This sucks because looking at yours I know they wont fit. I just want the deeper dish look so the 18x9.5 +15 will give me that look, but i dont know about the fitment now. They make a 18x9.5 +45.....do you think that would most likely fit?

Hey Gnuts, I just went on ENKEI's website and on their charts they dont make an 18x8 +35 in silver for 5x114.3 this makes no sense

sure they do....http://www.enkei.com/size_chart/RPF1.pdf

any 9.5 wheel will be hard to fit. You'll have to roll the rear fender (maybe a pull), relocate the bumper tabs, run camber and run a stretched tire. I would say if you want to go for the stretched cambered look then go for it.

So would you say go with the 18x9.5 +45 for a better fit rather than the +15? I just dont know if the depth of the lip would be different from a +45 to a +15. If not I would rather go with the +45 for better fitment

hi, Im sorry to steal this blog but i am also interested in some RPF1 rims. My car's suspension is all stock bone (acura CL 2003 S). Curious if 18x8 +35's will fit.

also what color rims should i get? My car is black. Im between SBC and silver.

Any replies will be greatly appreciated!

No inspections....well, if you run better than a 13.99 you need a helmet. I brought one with me, but never got to put it on since I only got 1 run before it rained. I know I would of been using it though...
