Point taken on the lenses, I missed that.
also the external recorder thing reminds me of the old skool 80's camcorders that had the separate shoulder-mount recording unit heh.

external recording is nothing new in the pro world.
BUT when you're fighting to get a foothold in this price range against competitors offering similar or better solutions for less...its a stupid idea on Sony's part.

meh', I don't even give a flying fuck about video, but if this a7S can be a low light performer, I'm seriously considering it

I just read that it is only 12MP...and while MP only matter so much...this day in age when Nikon is dominating the full frame market in low light performance at at least 16MP...12 just feels outdated by 4 years. This of course only really mattering if you ever have a desire to make large scale prints for photos shows or whatever.
Its minor in the grand scale...but its a nit pick.

For me 12mp is enough. Heck the 8.2mp on my 1D is enough for me.
BTW, one difference between the a7 and a7r with the a7s is that the mount is stainless steel.
And this is why it doesn't shoot 4K internally. Makes sense to me?
If it uses the same batteries as my NEX-6 then yea, those batteries don't last long.

- Reason why the camera doesn’t record 4K internally is because of power consumption and because of the heating produced by the large sensor

They can say that about no internal recording...but the GH4 does it...and its about the same size.
Stainless mount is a big deal actually.
You can say 12mp is enough...til you start seeing the cropping power of higher MP. Its huge to me.
But I will keep my eye on this camera...Im sure metabones has a speed booster adapter to from E mount to several other lenses.

MF to C mount, b4, PL, Canon, Sony, Nikon, 4/3 (not micro) etc
Canon to Nikon, PL
MF is very popular mount wise because of the amount of options available.
I've been shooting a lot with a black magic pocket camera which is a active MF mount, and I use a Nikon adapter with my lenses...its stunning.

so, a UK site is taking pre-orders on the a7S and it's 2500 pounds, which is roughly $4200 USD Yeah, if that's the actual price, then no way would I consider this. I'll keep waiting for the full frame mirrorless a-mount.
awhile back when the Sony rep did a demo event on the a7/a7R (just after the announcement), I approached him afterwards and asked why it wasn't called the a9/a9R? Since generally with Sony, the "9" is usually reserved for full frame bodies and the "7" is usually the top of the line APS-C bodies. He reluctantly said... "because there are 'more' coming..." I'm really hoping the a9/a9R WiLL be the mirrorless FF a-mount.

If it's $4k then it's DOA in the film world.
I looked their native e mount lens list again. Terrible.

My guess is an arbitrary number to ensure the actual cost of the camera is covered in the preorder price.
The article I read about it did say the price can change before it goes on sale.
But yes at that price I'd rather get a D800/5D3 or even a used D4.

Ricoh announced the new Pentax 645Z medium format camera. It becomes the cheapest digital medium format camera ever released and it can be preordered at BHphoto (Click here) and Adorama (Click here).
There are a couple of interesting Sony related news:
- First, Sony is literally conquering the full medium format digital camera market in one single strike! Hasselblad, Phase One and now Pentax use the newly developed and first ever CMOS sensor with 50Mp. Sony just had to make one sensor to wipe out the sensor competition from that market!
- The Sony sensor is the first CMOS sensor in the MF market, it’s the first sensor that allows useable High ISO with the new Pentax going up to 204,800 ISO!
- If the rumor is correct than the Sony Mamiya 7 alike (here on eBay) digital mirrorless medium format camera will cost less than the Pentax (less than $8,500).

whoa.
they might not have the best lens selection (kind of a moot point though since you can use 3rd party lenses etc) but damn you can't argue with their sensors. well done Sony.

I was just shooting a spec commercial on the black magic pocket camera...native m4/3 mount.
I do own an adapter made specifically for that camera to use my nikon lenses.
BUT, this spec spot was to be done very quick and guerrilla, and in some instances we needed to be very low profile.
So, in lieu of dealing my adapter, we opted to go with a native m4/3. Panasonic 12-35 2.8...it was perfect, it let use move quickly and the characteristics of the lens with that format (DoF) worked in our favor.
There are times when its just better to use a formats native accessories.

So I heard the DR on the older CCD medium format cameras (such as the older model of this) is better than on the 645Z's CMOS - 16-bit vs 14-bit. That being said, I think I'll keep my eyes set on the older models - the higher ISO doesn't really do much for me with respect to what I would be shooting with a camera like this - I would likely not exceed ISO 1000 on the high end and likely keep it as low as possible. #anyways

check out this guy's A7R pix - shot mostly using Canon glass - again negating the weak "Sony needs better glass" argument -

There is no negating. There are very good reasons why its an issue.

I was considering getting an adapter to use my canon glass with my NEX-6 but the inexpensive ones won't control the aperture so it would always be wide open. And the ones that do and have AF. The AF isn't so great and those cost around $150 to like $300 for the metabones one. I like having fast and reliable AF. And there aren't any 2.8 zooms with the e-mount lenses.
That said, I still love my NEX-6.

bingo. They are 4...if they even have consistent ramping at all. There are only like 5 or 6 native full frame E mount lenses. And they cost as much as competing 2.8 lenses with other systems.
And Sony doesn't really do anything to differentiate their E-Mount from their Full Frame E-Mount...which is confusing to the consumer. Since they just call everything E-mount.
I've said it before, you can't deny the camera body itself, Sony did well. But you have to be willing to make compromises to their typical proprietary BS. In this case...their lens mount and lens selection. Its just not there...and at this point Sony has basically said they are unwilling to do much about it. Doesn't give me faith in their product in the long term.
Adapters are huge these days, everyone uses them its true. But there are many situations where the whole point of these smaller mirrorless bodies is to be quick, compact, and non-attention getting. Having to use an adapter with bulkier SLR lenses is none of those.

And you're correct all of this makes the Sony not a good for me which is frustrating.
As well as others who would really like to be able to consider this system.
So as I said, there is NO negating the argument for a better selection of glass from Sony and you know it.

It's cheaper for them to keep making bodies, than invest in real glass. Everyone knows that glass is what you invest in, bodies are "disposable" in the digital age. Many talk about how good their bodies are for landscapes, then I ask what lenses they are using, they are old and don't start with the letter "S".

How are your Fuji camera(s)...how many lens adapters do you own or use on them?
#360
I use no adapter with Fuji, they have 1.2 and 1.4 lenses that I'm very happy with.
