Interior is nice...except for the nav screen location.
I know you got to put it somewhere, but it just does not look integrated into the rest of the great interior.....looks like it was just thrown into the top center with some extensions around the screen for sun glare reducing...but the upper dash does not flow well with it.

The exterior on the other hand is

It's okay. I like the exterior look, and the sloping roofline, as found on the RD-X also. I think the interior's very busy and complicated, but my mind may change by the time I see the final product.

Seems to me that it would be plood, for there are acres of that stuff on that dash...

^ You have a point. But at least the design is better this time around, looks like the plood was integrated into the design. The plood on the current one looked like it was an after-market kit.

looks like a bigger RDX. Reserve judgemenbt till seen in person, but you know it's gonna kill in the sales dept, as the MDX has been doing up till now.

Would be nice if it were authentic. I don't mind plood when it looks convincing, and nowadays there are a handful that do. But given the choice between real and fake, I'd pick real. No matter how the fake stuff tries, it can't replicate the natural grain and varying color of wood.

But the reason why I doubt the new MDX's wood is fake because Acura just seems to go for the fake stuff whenever they think they can get away with it. Even on the RL the optional wood steering wheel is fake wood.

not sure where I read it, but i recall a while back that one of the guys in charge at Acura said that they will not use fake wood anymore.

i guess we'll find out when this is introduced.

I guess a loophole is they can start using carbon-pliber or plaluminum instead of plood.

2007 Acura MDX stays true to the Concept - - By Ed Hellwig - - Source: Edmunds.com

Acura gave us a glimpse of the next-generation MDX with a concept version at this year's New York auto show. It looked promising thanks to a more distinctive front end and a more shapely body than its predecessor. We hadn't heard or seen much since, but recent spy footage from Death Valley, California shows a very similar production version undergoing hot-weather testing.

Even with a few strategically placed pieces of tape it's clear these prototypes of the 2007 Acura MDX don't look much different from the concept. The pronounced chevron-shaped grille is still there, as is the sloping roof line in back. Decent-size wheels and prominent wheel arches appear part of the finished product as well. It's still not the most eye-catching sport-utility we've ever seen, but neither are any of its competitors.

Unlike the vehicle shown in New York, these prototypes had fully detailed interiors, giving us a hint of which features we can expect. You can easily see the large center control knob in the middle of the dash, a setup borrowed straight from the RL sedan. This virtually guarantees the MDX will get a similar, if not improved, navigation system — not that there's much wrong with the RL's setup. Central control of the nav system doesn't appear to have lessened the button count, as the rest of the console is packed with secondary controls. Big planks of wood trim on either side of the center stack help clean up the dash a little, while a fully stocked steering wheel gets its share of auxiliary controls.

More RL donor parts may show up under the hood as Acura promised the segment's most powerful V6 for the MDX. It might not make the RL's 300 horsepower, but figure at least 280 horses with a comparable amount of torque. The RL's Super Handling All Wheel Drive system will also make its way into the MDX, giving it much improved street performance while maintaining plenty of all-weather traction. Acura's officials even threw out the Nürburgring card at the New York show, but we'll wait until we get behind the wheel before we determine whether it would really be any fun on a road course. With sales expected to start by the end of the year, it won't be long before we find out.

Chimin in with the usual dumbass comments are we?

The lock cylinder on the steering column could be for when the intelligent key (if there is such a system present) fails?

Pciked up a brochure on the MDX concept from the dealer - looks pretty decent in those pics, but hopefully it retains a lot of those aspects when it comes to showrooms.

i disagree. i think it will be competitive. and keep in mind that that's not a finished product.

acura might be cheaper than other luxury companies, but acura has one of the best interior.

Not to mention the low quality of the MDX's pic. I think that interior is pretty good and beyond Acura standards, save maybe for the RL.

I think the interior materials look pretty good (especially if the wood is real), except for that hoody for the nav display. It may be because of the quality of the pics, but it does look like "cheap" plastic that doesn't match the dash.

With the right color combo (brown wood, tan interior) I think the MDX's interior will be awesome. I cleaned it up a bit...changed the wood color, made the aluminum more like titanium.

Yeah the Q7 is in a totally different class than the MDX; not a fair comparison.

Q7 starts at 49,000....with the MDX "supposedly" going "upscale" I think it is a fair comparison.

The Q7 comes with a 4.2L V8 with 350hp. That itself dictates that it is a class above the MDX.

don't they have a V6 version of the Q7?

Those pics above make the interior of the ML, and BMW look pretty lame in comparison to the Q7 and MDX. The thing is, I've heard good things about the interior in the new ML, so I'm thinking it's just the way the pics makes the interior come across. Like Mr.Deeno said, the "hood" of the navi unit ion the MDX looks to be made out of cheap plastic in the pics, but I'm sure (hoping) that it's some high quality stuff.

I sort of disagree with this.

The next MDX should have close to 300hp. The RL has 290hp v6 or whatever it is rated at now. Does that mean that RL competitors (A6, E, 5, M, GS, STS) that offer bigger and more powerful engines are no longer competitors?

Does that mean since the E offers super-electric-blue paint, but the 5 doesn't, they are no longer competitors?

Trim for trim and price for price, no, the TRIM of each individual car may or may not be a competitor.

But model/class-wise, they are competitors because of the "purpose". They are chasing the same demographics, that's why both are 7-passenger larger mid-size upscale AWD SUVs.

There are two engines for the Q7 worldwide, a 3.0L v6 TDI and a 4.2L v8. As of now, only the 4.2L v8 is offered here in the states. I dont know whether or not the diesel v6 will be sold here.

I think the Q7's interior is attractive, and I have no doubt the quality is there as well, but I like the MDX's more avant garde interior.

Someone refresh my memory but is the Q7 based on the Touareg platform or did Audi go with something larger?

I knew a few of us don't think highly of the Lienerts, but news is news...

http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll...607050319/1149

Sneak Peek: 2007 Acura MDX
When Acura, Honda Motor Co.'s premium brand, rolled out a prototype of its second-generation MDX sport utility vehicle this year at the New York auto show, executives described the concept as "90 percent there," in terms of final production styling and trim.

Spy photos of the actual production model reveal some changes from the concept, including a slightly different front fascia and grille, with larger headlamps and fog lamps.

While the overall design is mostly evolutionary, rather than a radical change, the 2007 MDX looks more modern than the current vehicle, and shares major thematic cues with such recent Acura designs as the RL and the TL.

The '07 MDX, which goes on sale this fall, is slightly longer than the current model, with more interior room. It is expected to feature a new 3.8-liter V-6 and likely will share the RL sedan's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive.
