5,600 miles - Oil life is still at 30% ?
seems like a lot of miles, they told me the synthetic oil lasts a lot longer and can go up to 7,000 miles
should I take the car in for the first oil change, or just wait until it gets to 5-10% ? is it safe?

first, the onboard computer does not know what type of oil you have inside.

it's based off of regular oil, so you are okay following the on board computer. 6000 miles to 7000 miles is perfect for an oil change interval.

synthetic oil can last LONGER than that.

so, yes, its perfectly safe to run the oil for 7000 miles.

also, please read the owners manual, as it will give CLEAR instructions on how long you should have it in there

thanks, I haven't even checked inside the manual....I've just been going by the computer, and right now I'm at 30%, wasn't sure if it's accurate, seems like a lot of miles without a change
I think the tire pressures are getting lower than when I first got the car too, so I'll probably be bringing it in soon, at 10-20%

~15% is the rule of thumb but like justn said, you're running synthetic so it's theoretically more than that so you'll be okay even if you get to 0%

right, and I can bet your mileage will be closer to 6000, almost 7000 miles before it reaches 10%

it only seems like a lot of miles because we were ingrained at child birth to do oil changes every 3000 miles. With great advances in engine tolerances and Advancement in oil chemistry, 3k oil intervals are LONG GONE! just like yesterday.

the car will tell you when to change the oil and if you need a better explanation, read the owners manual. the owners manual is there for questions JUST like this

I actually had 8500 miles on my car and that's when it went down to 20%. It dropped for me 10% roughly every 1055 miles. I did quite a bit of research on this and it turns out that the computer will look at many different factors, including temperature, driving habits, city vs hwy driving, high vs low rpm average, average speed, etc, to calculate your oil life. It said that the percentage till it drops down to 15% could vary anywhere from 3000 miles to even 12000 miles between changes on standard oil. I got my oil changed at 20% at 8500 miles because i went in to get my breaks replaced with the new ones under warranty, so I ended up just doing all of it at once.

So, if you set your tires to the recommended pressure on a 90 degree day in June, three months later at 60 degrees you'll have lost 3psi due to time and 3 psi due to the lower temps - all without any problems.
You maintenance minder will first light up at 15%, reminding you that you need an oil change. At 10% it will remind you that you need an oil change soon and at 5% it will tell you that you need an oil change now. At 0% you won't be able to turn the light off and it will show you how many miles you are overdue.
There is no need to take it in early.
