Dressing my 2005 Acura TL as a Type S

I was thinking about this recently and I want to know the pros and cons of redressing my base 2005 tl. Are type s parts worth it? How popular are their parts amongst car thieves and would I have to keep a close lookout on my car if I were to do this? I already know that they will definetely be more sought after than base model parts, but to what extreme is the question?

S stand for sheet metal

I kid, I kid, OP. Thousands of people have Type-S parts on their base. Dress her on up.

Idk id say the OEM type s wheels are most likely of a lot higher quality than the knock offs. It can be difficult to get the real type s body panels especially in specific colors. I dont have them and never bought them so cant say for sure but I would say yes risk of theft especially for the wheels will go up. I think there are probably knock off side skirts and stuff that once installed and shaped up a bit look real. Just dont put a type s badge on and call it a day

My TL has turned into a Type-S mock up. Honestly wish I would've just gotten a Type-S.

Bumpers can be very expensive and finding one in your exact color may be another difficult task. And on top of that, the trim is bit expensive too. I don't know if my wheels are knock-offs are not (came with the car) but if you look on ebay a set can be found for $300. I'm pretty sure the front bumper is the same except for the fog grills. And from what I've experienced, the tips will never be like the Type-S because of how the muffler sits (unless you buy both mufflers + tips on ebay for $600).

But it's possible.

There's a guy(NBP_BALLER) with a base TL basically converted to a Type S (aesthically interior/exterior). He's doing a J35A8 6MT swap (has the engine and tranny), so he'll basically have a full Type S swap, except his VIN will still say UA6 LOL.

It's a show car. Here's a pic:

^^^ Just wanted to point out that this is pretty sound advice right here...

But to the point: what's the point?

To the average car driver, the differences between the base and Type S are indistinguishable.

Get an eBay badge and call it a day if you just want to fake it until you make it.

Why not? I mean isn't the point of dressing a base tl to get people to own a type s?

Does anybody here know how to set the suspension to a position where I will have great stiff and responsive handling but at the same time not have to lower my car too low? I ask this because the city that I live has endless potholes. This question was actually meant to be asked in the aspec vs type s suspension thread but for some reason that thread was moved.

Indeed. It's pretty incredulous how non-caring the average person/driver is. My friends can't tell the difference of two sedans apart if they are the same color...and they're all college educated...LOL.

To OP: I have a base 06 TL and I thought about doing the whole TL-S/A-spec thing but decided its not worth the money (prolly will just get a real TL-S if I need to replace this current car)

Luckily for you, nobody gives a shit about the TL or TL-S. You car is safe either way, mod it so you like it. Or don't.

My girlfriend said an E63 AMG wag was hotter than my car when we spotted a parked one while walking around earlier this week. After taking care of my raging boner, I conceded and asked her why it was hotter.

"The black is shinier".

It's ok she cooks good food.

Are you sure about that? I know that TLs are hot cars and on the market and that thieves have an eye out for Honda and acura performance parts due to the fact that they can be used interchangeably with both.

TLs are only hot cars on the market because they reached a price point where anyone with a bit of extra cash can get one.

There's no "performance part" worth stealing on TLs because there's no part that improves performance in any drastic fashion. You'll put a lot of money to gain just a little bit of power. I'd love to see a thieve wrenching on a TL though to remove a jpipe.

If anything, you'll get your wheels stolen, but nobody is going to go as far as look under the hood. If you got stock wheels on, don't even fear, those are not worth anyone's time either.

This. And if the owner cheaped out on repair (not to mention who was cause of the crash) what else did he cheap out on? (tires? brakes? ATF? oil changes?)

No no, the car was never in an accident, clean title. The current owner bought it off a guy in the army years ago, who was parting the car to stock. That owner idk what he did but ran a different bumper and sold the stock ones. When it was time to put the car to stock all he could find were base model bumpers lol but the car is an original type s 6 speed.

not if you have "1st time accident forgiveness"

Ive had two accidents and both times claimed insurance.
Premiums never went up!
I did challenge and switched providers tho.

and ins. companies only look at the last three years of your driving record.
so, if you time it correctly, you can have accidents without ever raising your premiums!! lol
but you cant time accidents, or they wouldnt be called accidents
