How Do I Remove Overhead Console 2012?

I've searched the forum but have only found posts for 2009 and older models telling how to remove the overhead console.

How do you remove the console on a 2012 Tech model? I am adding a rearview mirror with built in compass to have an easily read compass instead of the arrow on the navigation screen. I am taking pictures and will post a DIY once I am done.

I want to remove the present mirror harness and replace the plug on the mirror end with the one I need for the new mirror. I have the factory electrical manual and see where I can unplug it inside the overhead console.

OK, I got it figured out. Open the sun glass tray and there are two screws which have to be removed. The front (the end near the windshield) of the console will pull down once the screws are removed.

Push the whole console towards the windshield with the front down and the rear will come off two retaining posts, allowing the whole assembly to be pulled down. There are three wire connections which have to be undone to remove the console completely off the roof.

The 3 wires from the mirror were bundled with other wires near the roof, and the connector I thought I could unplug to remove the mirror harness had too many wires wrapped going into it. It wasn't just the three wires I was hoping for.

It's a bit of a pain to put the console back in. The end near the passenger compartment has to angle up and there are two receptacles which have to slide over two red posts mounted on a bracket attached to the roof.

It took a lot of pushing upwards and pulling towards the passenger area before the posts finally seated into the receptacles. Once they seated the front pushed up and the two screws were reinstalled. I had to work the headliner a bit to get it all tucked back under the back end where the posts were.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering the same thing. I want to pull 12v off the console for my radar detector.

It's pretty tight in there unless you remove the three electrical connectors and drop the entire console. I was working in the garage here at home with a record setting 108 degrees. I put everything back in place and just cut the harness off the mirror to splice in my new harness.

If you decide to get power off the mirror, the first pin on the outside of the harness (pink wire on my 2012) is 12+ volts with ignition on. Second pin (black) is ground and third pin (tan) is 12+ when in reverse only.

Getting the one end to connect onto the two receptacles was a real bear! You really have to shove that one end up very high and work the headliner when your done.
