Hatch opening height?

I haven’t received my 2010 ZDX yet but I’m wondering if anyone knows how much height is required for the hatch to open so it doesn’t hit my garage ceiling at 84”.

The highest point of the hatch reaches 86-87" when opened.

Well that’s gonna be fun lol. I wonder if I stick a pool noodle to my ceiling so the hatch gently hits it, will it affect the motor or at all? Surely it wouldn’t try to force the hatch up higher right?

I will conduct an experiment for you later. I will open the hatch, bring it down 1-2" and press the button to close it. I'm not certain what will happen, as I rarely use the button to close the hatch.

I tested two scenarios for you.

1) I held the hatch about two inches from the top, and pressed the button to close it. The hatch closed as intended.
2) I held the hatch about five inches from the top to simulate a pool noodle, and pressed the button to close it. I assumed a pool noodle is about 4-5" in diameter. The hatch closed as intended.

I believe that the pool noodle idea is sound, and I don't foresee any issues. The motor operates the same regardless if the hatch is fully opened, or not.
