Audio specs for ZDX
Audio specs for ZDX
Does anybody have any source for technical specs for the audio system? All Acura wants to say is 18 speakers and USB audio input. This is particularly frustrating, because I am used to the incredibly detailed audio specs Kenwood provides with the several aftermarket head units I’ve had installed in older Hondas and Acuras. These include what audio codecs are supported, up to what frequencies, and for USB inputs what file formats, disc formats, and capacities are supported. I’ve tried connecting both an external hard drive and a large-capacity thumb drive in the ZDX, each with the same collection of high-definition FLAC files, and the car just says “no files found”. So I don’t have any clue as to whether the problem is my file formats, or something physical about the drives.
I tried looking on line for more info, and the only thing of interest I found so far was a notation on the Edmunds website that the ZDX has “Surround audio surround audio (discrete)” [sic]. Does this mean that the car can technically play back 5.1 audio, or even Atmos/Spatial Audio? If so, how does one achieve this? Which apps support it? What format drives can I connect via USB? What file types are supported?
Since my other main car is a 2013 MDX, and I actually have a large number of DVD-Audio discs to play in it, I have enjoyed surround audio in an Acura before, and would love to do so again. [That being said, I stopped playing those discs in the MDX, because they are now collectors items, usually selling for over $100 each in used condition, and I am reluctant to risk them in a car these days. Plus the idea of carrying multiple discs around in a car is so 20th century!]

I don't have specs but I just sat in the car listening to Phantom of the Opera. It appears to me, that you actually can hear voices in different areas. It's a bit more muffled than when I listen to some good Sennheiser headphones but it has the best soundstage compared to any car we had. I have all my CDs ripped to FLAC but listen to them via high res mp3.
