Anyone Retrofit Type S Hands Free Tailgate Sensor in an A Spec?

New to ZDX (and Acura).

Picked up my A-Spec AWD last Thursday. Very surprised that only Type S has hands-free power tailgate.

Anyone know/completed retrofiting Type S sensor to A-Spec to add this feature? All my Audi’s going back to 2013 have had this feature and it comes in very handy when carrying boxes/bags of stuff to load into the trunk.

It is not as easy to retrofit control module on GM vehicles, because the whole vehicle network is secured.

What that means is, adding/updating a module requires serial gateway authentication, so my guess is that unless you have the necessary tool (SPS2 + software subscription), simply adding the factory handsfree tailgate module will not work. On top of that, GM might check car features based on VIN during the authentication, so even if you have the tool, the authentication might fail.

Better chance is to look for aftermarket solutions.

There was a thread on here about someone wanting to retrofit the hands free to their rdx aspec. After tearing their car apart, they determined the plug and harness are there in the aspec, but not the wires needed. After much trouble and I think a couple control modules and wire runs…it didn’t work. lol.
