Zaino tips

I just bought some Zaino products today and plan to do a full detail on my 2005 black Mustang GT.

Process:

1. Wash with Dawn
2. Claybar with Zaino Claybar kit
3. PC with Orange LC Pad and Menzerna Intensive Polish
4. PC with White LC Pad and Menzaerna Final Polish II
5. Zaino AIO applied by hand
6. 2 Coats of Zaino with ZFX Z2-Pro applied by hand

Any tips or suggestions on my process? I've never used Zaino before, so I am anxious to see how it compares to my previous Menzerna Glaze and S100 combo. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I'm curious but what is your reasoning behind using ZAIO after your final polish? I would do an IPA wipe down instead of the ZAIO unless the ZAIO promotes the bonding of Z2. I'm not sure, I've never used Zaino but I have Z2 and Z5, haha.

He also recommends using nothing but American made cotton towels ... One day he will catch up with the real world. I think his cotton towels thing is more a marketing thing .. patriotic you know. Next time your in a store check the towels .. I could never find American made ones.

FP II is abbrasive:

From Zaino's website:

When would I use Z-AIO verses Z-2 PRO or Z-5 PRO?

Z-AIO is not in the same product category as Z-2 PRO or Z-5 PRO. Neither Z-2 PRO or Z-5 PRO contain any cleaners or abrasives. Z-2 PRO or Z-5 PRO achieve higher gloss and durability than can be attained with a single product that includes cleaners or abrasives. Most customers will choose to use Z-AIO as the foundation to other Zaino Show Car Polish protectants like Z-CS Clear Seal, or Z-2 PRO or Z-5 PRO.

Yeah, I've been reading up a bit on that. Seems like a very harsh thing to voluntarily put on a car.

Up untill a couple of years ago the Z-AIO didn't exist and thier products ( Z-2 & Z-5) worked just fine without it.

The IPA / water wipe will do the same thing ... I have the Zaino .. and thats all I have done .. matter of fact I used up my last Zaino this spring and am moving on to other things ..

Max, when I first got Zaino products, Sal instructed me to use Z-AIO as my foundations. Then use as many coats of Z-5 as I like.

Ah I see, you could do similarly with Optimum Poli-Seal and Optimum Opti-Seal. FWIW, the ZAIO probably wouldn't be necessary if you were to ZFX your Z2 or Z5 but that's just my hunch.

Use ZAIO if you don't polish to create a nice base for Z5/2 to adhere to. Not needed in your case.

If you polish with ZPC or anything else, therse no need for ZAIO... just an IPA wipedown.

BTW, you probably know this but you don't have to ZFX the last layer of Z2. Might wanna try ZFX'd Z5 x2 + non-ZFX'd Z2. Don't forget the Z6 either.

Has anyone used the Z-CS? I was reading about it and considered trying it.

I use it on my parent's and in-law's cars since I don't zaino them as often as ours. It seems to work well to me, but to be honest, I don't analyze their cars a ton b/c they both don't take care of them like I do.

I have yet to try out the ZAIO but was considering it during my last "Zaino-fest"

I have always gone by the book (internet) Zaino instructions and I don't recall them having ZFX on after the last coat since it's only used to create a fast bond for the next coast of Z-2/Z-5/etc.

The American-made towel claim has always baffled me too, but it was only for buffing off the layers. I'm considering going over to an orbital buffer for time (rather than hands) and wonder if the pads used for them would be kosher with Sal's Zaino policies

Sal has released his own MF towels now so he needs to update his instructions to use those instead.

His point in specifying US made towels was to ensure that the towels are indeed 100% cotton with no acrylic fibers which could micro-mar. Again, I had bought 100% cotton Fieldcrest towels, cut off the ticking, and they worked great!

I've since bought a bunch of Bogo MF towels....very fleecy!

I wonder if you could use ZFX with other polymer based waxes like Optimum Poli-Seal?

I had asked Sal that very question and he told me he has no issue with power buffers in terms of the quality of the finish, only that the machine pads waste a lot of product....and the Zaino bottles are pretty small to begin with!

JS, I use ZAIO and ZPC with my PC. Z2/5 I apply by hand for the reason posted above.

good insight RRTP @ jmk.... since I've yet to use a power buffer in any capacity, I wouldn't have known that.... glad I posed the issue here so now I'm aware!
