Zaino question...

Ok.. I'll start with a total mea culpa. I'm a noob to washing cars so please bear with me.

I will be getting my new TL hopefully the end of this week and want to start the exterior care from the beginning. With this being said, I have been looking at all the informative posts it is seems that one of the most popular car care line of products is the Zaino Bros stuff. I went to their site and reviewed their products and it appears that it is all washes, glosses and polishes. Does this mean that you don't "wax" your car or do you do it with a different product? Or does gloss + polish = "wax".

Thanks in advance for your help.

There have been many posts on this subject and I have to admit I was just as confused when I first checked out the Zaino website.

Sal Zaino refers to the Z-2, Z-3, and Z-5 polymer sealants as "polishes." They are not polishes in the sense of a product that cleans paint, removes oxidation, removes wax, removes swirls, and renews the top paint layer. These are the things that traditional polishes do. The Zaino products do none of these things.

In the most basic sense, the Zaino polishes can be substituted for a traditional wax in your detailing process. They provide protection from the elements as well as some UV block.

As a very simplified example, you would do the following:

1. Wash
2. Clay
3. Polish (if you need to)
4. Wash
5. Apply Zaino

Usually polishes create the glossy wet look. Waxes and sealants provide protection and depth of shine.
