What sort of wheel cleaner are you using? Brand and name would help. Some wheel cleaners are harsh chemicals that eat away at the clear on your rims, caps, etc... I'd suggest getting a good ph balanced cleaner like P21S. If you don't want spend the money on P21S, you can use Simple Green and let it sit on the rims, then rinse or just use a mild car wash soap and clean the rims with that.

Yeah, name and brand would help. Maybe you are using an acidic cleaner? I would recommend non-acidic so it doesn't strip your finish...

EEEEEEks ! Theres a big difference between a ph balanced cleaner and Simple Green! i dont think I would let Simple Green set on anything. Its actually used to clean/clear drains too.
Whatever it is your using is obviously too harsh for that center cap. Instead of letting a product dwell, try using a soft bristle brush and agitate the dirt away....

I'd definitely suggest using a brush to agitate the dirt away, but Simple Green isn't as harsh as you may think. It's origial pH is 9, but with proper dilution (http://www.simplegreen.com/pdfs/05_d...s_consumer.pdf), you can definitely use it on rims, etc to degrease. I'd say it's just as effective as P21s, but at a fraction of the cost.

SG would be fine, but i personally, would not let it "set" for any length of time.........
Spray, agitate and rinse.....My co-worker actually used it on that pOrsche I just did, and I had to go back with Charliesoap and reclean.....plus the smell of the stuff is just irrittating to me...........
