What's a good hand wax?

So I picked up an 08 black acura tl type s not to long ago. I have someone detailing it in about a month or so but until then he is busy with work. I want to get some small swirls out and basically put a good wax on it for the winter months which has started already. IDK if it is best to do it in the cold but i have no choice. I will use a propane heater to warm the garage a bit. Anyways i need a hand wax and am not going to attemp screwing up my car with a machine wax because i dont know what i am doing and i am leaving that to the family friend who will do that prfessionaly in a month or so.

Here is my plan

Wash/dry
claybar most of car
wax

What hand wax should i use for the car. I want something of good quality and something fairly easy to do that wont leave white marks on the rubber pieces or crack of the car. Any ideas?

Use meguiers ultimate wax, a little pricey at 20 bucks but the finish lasts, it is worth it.

My suggestion ... from your postings you know little about detailing .. leave it alone ... let the pro do it .. if the relative knows what he is doing he can remove the swirls and put a wax on it ..

The paint isn't going to fall off in a month . In the mean time do some research and learn how to wash/dry it .. thats where the swirling comes from.

Washing and drying in straight lines - small sections at a time will help keep swirl marks at bay.
The old "wax on wax off" karate kid method will only produce mega swirl marks.

IMHO...unless you're prepared to go totally OCD and really maintain a perfectly swirl free car, go with zaino brothers z-2. It gives a great protection and overall appearance. And it's not over the counter stuff either...it builds up layers so you can just keep putting it on every few months and it's a polymer bond so longevity is pretty good too.

I get MANY compliments on my car including some from the dudes at the local acura dealership about how my paint looks better than some of the new cars. (at dawn...don't look at her during full sunshine!...slight swirls and major rock chips).

Well i am lookign to do something to my car in the next few days. I cant count on him doing it even though he says he will get to it. I have herd that before and knowing him he will push it back to when winter is almost done. I want something on there to protect it for the winter months so i am going to put some sort of hand wax on.

four star upp
zaino z-2
Also have been reccomended dft detailers wet wax.

What is the easiest to apply and will protect the best. Please i am hoping to order tonight.

Every one of those waxes/sealants perform best on a well prepared surface which your not in a position to do ..

Your better off using Duragloss #105 available through your local Car Quest.

why would i not be ready to do this? I am planning on washing car clean then clay bar entire car then wash again. After doing so applying thin layer of wax to car. I have all the product and many mf towels. I just need the wax. Its a black car so known for swirls. I wont do circular motions but more up and down motions on vehicle.

All those sealants really perform better and look better on a "polished " out car .. If your going to amplify your swirls why spend the $$ ... Duragloss will outlast all of them but possibly the Zaino and then its a slim margin.

You will get a better look with the lack of polishing with the Duragloss..

Circular motions are prefered when applying the sealant ... Straight lines when removing.

Sounds like you have your mind made up that you want to do this so go for it.

I use a sealant then use KIT carnuba wax on top because KIT honestly for OTC is a great product and it goes on like warmed up butter and you dont have to wait till it dries to get full effect even though it says it is not neccessary I messed around with it on a couple of doors I have bought from the junkyard to verify. I usually let it "almost" dry then wipe off so that it doesn't flake all over everything, seems to be the best result.

Here's my process, and it makes my NBP look like a mirror.

1. Wash with this,
Amazon Amazon

2. Dry with a genuine chamois

3. Once cooled down, use the clay bar, I prefer this kit,
Amazon Amazon

4. Finally I top it off with a nice natural wax. I've tried a few and this one seems to really work,
Amazon Amazon

Just did this today, check out the final product in the picture forum

I use a collinite wax, the 476 paste to be exact. It's known for it's longevity. But if your looking for something easy to take off, a liquid wax is the way to go but the down side is longevity. Collinite makes liquid waxes too but you are going to have to find their products online or at a marine store.

I have a black car too and to help keep the dried wax off the trim and gaps, I used masking tape.

That is what I use after claybarring the ZDX.

It is easy to work with and lasts quite a while. I use Meguiars claybar kit and Mequiars detail spray in between waxing with the Autoglym HD.

The tradeoff of carnauba waxes, if you can call it a tradeoff, is that it does not last as long as a synthetic sealant. A carnauba car wax finish will wear off in approximately 6 to 8 weeks. It depends heavily on the climate in which you live and whether or not your vehicle is garaged. Daily commutes in a hot, humid climate mean a shorter life span for your carnauba wax coat

It really is great stuff for off the shelve. I dont really use anything off the shelve except for a few items here and there. I really do like this wax tho. It also comes with an excellent ff the shelve applicator, not some chessy foam ones like the other brands.

Just incase you dont know, make sure your car is very clean before you clay, honda clear is not very hard and if the car is not perfectly clean you will really scratch up your finish.

p.s your zdx looks great!! really starting to come around to the styling of this truck.

Same stuff anyway. The Zaino-Duragloss connection is the worst kept secret in detailing.

Yeah but I use a sealant as well as carnauba on top of it, the carnauba wax is just for that additional pop, I could care less how long it lasts.

Car is garage kept too so less stuff to worry about.

Don't depend on anyone! you should really look into the porter cable 7424!! watch youtube vids and even watch "how safe is a porter cable?"

forget the hand wax method.. you won't be correcting the swirl marks
http://www.autogeek.net/poca74pofcop.html

Its noob-proof, and with the right pad+polisher combination, sealant and/or wax, you'll be correcting your entire household of cars! IF you're serious about removing swirl marks and protecting your paint, look into a PC.

I concur, but prepare for a "learning curve" and many hours at it. Once you do get it though, it IS very rewarding. I'm actually considering graduating up to a full rotary now and I'm only 2 years in. I'll probably keep my PC too though...it has it's place in a detailer's shelf.

Thanks for the comments and tip re claying I think I get it pretty clean and have only clay barred it twice to this point . Will do it again next spring before I wax it again. Too messy up here during the winter months so I just wash it at least one a week.

You should defiantly keep your pc. You will still seal and wax with it. If your maintaining your personal care you'll want to pretty much never touch it with a rotary. Lightly polish it when you feel it needs work with the pc (of course, once you have it corrected to your liking, maintain with the pc). You only have so much clear coat. Rotary would be the most aggressive. You'd cut your clear down to nothing before you know it.
