What about bugs on a long trip?

In a couple of weeks I am driving my 04 TL Anthrocite from South Florida to Colorado (via Texas) and back. Any suggestions on how to deal with the daily accumulation of bugs? I assume extra wax before I go should help...but I hate the idea of arriving at destinations with such a great looking car not looking so good.

Wax won't help - those lil bug bodies contain acids and gunk that will eat it any ways - If you are near sarasota call 941.951.1325 - premium auto care (ask for dwayne and tell him groebuck sent ya!). If you leave near there they have a store - go and get a bottle of Poorboy's spray and wipe and pick up some MF towels. Or if your not near there but you have a CarQuest around you , get a bottle of Duragloss Fast Clean Shine and again..some microfiber towels. Both products are washes in a bottle. When you stop to gas up , make it a habit to go round the front, spray and wipe them bad boys off - the less time they are on there the less chance they can stain the paint!

exactly what I was going to say. I found about this product semi-recently and have had a bottle in my glove box ever since (with a microfiber towel, of course). It works great on every colour and best of all it doesen't add anything and it doesn't take away anything. It doesn't contain cleaners that will strip down your wax or sealant, It can be used on a carnuba wax OR a sealant (it works great, and is designed to work on both types), it doesn't add anything to the sealant that might haze the finish (carnuba detail sprays can haze the finish of sealants, sometimes), it makes the car feel like you have just detailed it and it smells good too...

Poorboy's

whole line is awesome - EX-P is amazing sealant -

I use SSR1, SSR2, Polish with Carnuba (it's like AIO on steroids), and EX as well as Spray and Wipe to keep it shiney and his Natural Look dressing for the interior. I have yet to find a Poorboy's product I don't like.

Groe,

dunno if I was doing the right thing but over the years, I've just gotten used to slapping on extra coats of Liquid Glass on the hood especially the leading edges of the car, roof line, front bumpers and side mirrors. It didn't look any more shinier than the rest of the car but I found that bugs and tar are much easier to power wash off compared to a car without LG that needs "soaking" of bug/ tar spray.

One thing I want to find out is how to prevent the "sandblasted" look of the front windshield that occurs after a few years. No matter how sharp the paint looks, the windshield looks like crap.

I have a 2003 Black Range Rover in the garage right now, I have used ssr3, then ssr2, and ssr1 so far.. I am going to finish today with the carnuba polish and then EX... love using the Klasse twins on black paint, but I need to see the results of the EX on black paint, I have heard so many great things, I have to see for myself, I have all of the poorboys line but I have yet to try it on black, I wil followed this with pics later.

Try claybarring your windows to get rid of that.. First use your claybar on the paint (like usual), once the clay bar is too dirty to use on the paint, use it on your glass products and once it is too dirty to use on the glass, use it on the metal parts of the car.

I haven't thrown out a claybar yet, just keep recycling them..

A good glass polish too can do wonders. - EX looks awesome on black - Menzerna FMJ kit looks fan freaking tastic too - (check my other thread for the pic of my roomate's black truck). I hear that EX-P is better on darker colors (I have not tried it yet) as it is a pure sealant and not a sealant/carnuba mix like EX.

LG is an old school sealant! but it has been reformulated and I know vette show car owners who swear by it - rule of thumb is - if it works for you use it! - wax won't help but a sealant probably will - the wax is less durable so you been doing it right

I went thought a car wash with my old SUV and couldn't get the tar/bugs off the front of the truck. The guy went over to a small bucket and used a soft brush and the bugs came right off, as well as the tar. I asked him what it was and he said watered down kerosene. He said it takes bugs and tar off your car in seconds, doesn't hurt the paint, and evaporates quickly.

I have a citrus based tar and wax remover. I haven't seen anything that could beat it, even Kerosene, we actually used it too. The product is from a company called HiTemp, they make high quality detailing products, but it, seems like they only supply large quanitities. I got a 5gal jug of their tire dressing, it's great stuff, smells great too!

As I am a newbie, I still think this should be said "Regardless what wax/solution you use, be sure not to use the damn squeezies at the gas station. They are crap, and meant for crap.

Used it on my BMW and found out that someone had placed a razor in it, luckily it only left marks in my tailight (replaced thoses!)

By the way the watered down kerosene works great!
