Waxing

A lot of you are talking about how u wax your car

I was talking to my friend who babies his car and knows all the little thing like get oil changed after 1st 1000-1500. He eve will only put the same type of gas in his car (brand). Some gets rediculous. No car washes..........

He say that you aren't supposed to wax you car for at least 6 months after purchase of a new car. Somethign about the clear coat tha comes on it

I am not sure, and prob will get yelled at, but htough I might pass my findings on just in case anyone cares or heard something similiar

He thinks he knows.

The high moly oil (a.k.a. break-in oil) should be left in for at least 5000 miles.

The clear coat is cured by the time you get the car. It's been painted for about 4 weeks before you even get it (think Pacific Ocean transit time). So waiting 6 months is just 6 months without any protection on it.

Just a point to reiterate on the whole topic of oil changes... the high content of moly in the oil is not due to the actual oil Honda puts in the car, it has to do with the assembly lube used to put the engine together. It simply ends up in the oil. You can change the oil anytime you want really, but I'm only waiting 3000 miles, then I'm going full synthetic oil.

Also, the whole rule of waiting to wax a car is crap. First of all, the paint is baked on at the factory. Short of getting the car out of the door from the plant, you can definitely wax it on delivery. The 6 month rule only applies (I know b/c I worked for an collison repair shop) to repair paint jobs. Why? Well, the paint hardens and 6 months is a nice avg time for drying/hardening in extremely humid conditions.

I have been waxing my car since day one, and there is not one swirl mark or flaw in the paint (until the deerincident, of course). You dont want that paint unprotected for any amount of time, let alone 6 months! I think the 6 month rule was for cars back inthe 80's where they didnt bake on the paint and all that.

But this brings up my next question. I have to have the entire front of my car repainted, and the body shop says I cant wax it right away. But you guys are saying 6 months for aftermarket paint job. Which is it? Cause i dont wannt mess this up!

I worked for an autobody shop and you do want to give it some time to harden. They'll probably tell you more like 6 weeks. You can generally wash the car in the newly paint areas within 2-3 wks and then waxing it (let them know you'll be using a polymer, not a buffing agent) within a month or two.

Also, it is important to note that most cars are buffed after they are clearcoated, so this business about factory paint jobs needing to wait 6 months before waxing is just wrong.

When my brother-in-law parked his POS Explorer on my Prelude hood (and this was around late 2001), the body work people (who did fantastic work) told me no washes for two weeks and no waxing for 4 weeks to give the paint the proper time to cure/harden.

Again, this is for after-the-factory-type painting and not rules for what rolls of the factory line and shows up at your dealer.

FAQ Sticky in this section detials most of this.

You can change your engine oil as soon as you would like, engines are broken in at the factory.

You can wax as soon as you would like paint is cured fully at the factory.

agree -

a lot of cars are detailed right before you pick them up from the dealer ( I have a friend/customer) who does huge amounts of work for a M-Benz dealership - every car that gets sold gets detailed (waxed)

new paints - well todays paints are commonly cured by chemical reaction - and the 6 month rule is old-school (and only applies to waxes if at all).

I have applied polymer to a 7 day repaint on a black hood - and would tell customers no more than 2 weeks max . . .

In fact, a lot of paint shops will tell you NOT to use polymers - because they dont know whats up with current products, A lot of the old-timers remember when acrylics were the craze (indestructable even from lasers) hahahah - and that stuff was harsh on paint

no - i dont suggest NOT using it all . . . . Klasse is a fine product.

Why have you selected it? Do you already use it? or just considering buying . . .

my reference to acrylics is the first generation that came out -

Never used it before, but I heard great things about the results, and the ease of application. I have talked to a few people at local car shows who use it, and I think it looks sick on their cars, but if it is too harsh on the paint, fuggedaboutit.

no - its fine.
Klasse AIO contains some cleaners - nothing to hurt the paint - then the Sealant Glaze is the topper. .

AIO is easy to remove, the SG has reports of being tougher . .

fine products though , really.

For me it s a personal thing - i dont like using "pre-cleaners". I try to maintain the cars finish to the point where a pre-cleaner is not required - unless you are starting a new product line and they suggest it. Remembering that a great deal of the excellent results you see is a direct result of proper surface prep work . ..
