BOTH. i've become a lot more OCD about my TL and really wanting to keep it looking clean and shiny. i'm also a proud and prideful owner that loves her car. your car is bit of an extension of yourself. as enthusiasts, our cars are important to us, so being a little OCD AND proud are pretty normal to others..."its just a car." you can ususally spot the people that love and care for their cars.
what can i say, the TL is a hot looking car when its clean and shiny so its ok to show that pride.

I think I got one better for ya. I was in the cleaning mood this a.m. when I got up. I looked at the news and they said it was supposed to rain later So I went and cleaned the engine bay and the exhaust tips since I wanted to clean something. Well wouldnt you know, one thing lead to another and I ended up washing the whole car. Now I know I'm gonna be pissed later when I'm out and it starts raining, but I brought it on myself

lucky you dont live in Toronto.
weather network till tell you its gonna rain tomorrow and then it doesnt.
which means you could have washed your car the day before!
i really dont mind the washing...its like 20-25mins.
its the tire spray that kills me! shit is expensive. and 20's take a lot of it!

My Type S never gets dirty-I won't allow it.
If it's driven in the rain, it gets cleaned on immediately.
I wanted you guys to know that I've started using Griot's Garage car cleaning items-they are terrific, especially the Speed Shine. You should feel the finish!

Dump the spray and go with Optimum Tire gel ... lasts numerous washes and not expensive ... I get it by the gal.

Currently Post-Acura
I'm doin it once a week now since I have the time before school starts. Partial OCD too since it is a white car so it gets dirty quite easily. That, and my dad hounds me to clean my wheels before any brake dusts eats at the finish.

4 times in a week is too much. i will just do it probably 2 times in a months. i just drive in highways, clean streets with pavement so i really dont have problems like driving in roads with dirt or mud.

I was driving home right as the sun was going down today and could clearly see a film of dust from the road on the hood. I have also noticed the front wheels have a very slight coating of brake dust so I think a wash is due tomorrow. We'll see how I feel about doing that.
I must confess I'm criminally lazy when it comes to doing windows, especially the windshield.

I try to wash once a week while summer still exists up here. Once winter comes, I won't be such a religious car washer since our winters last a good 8 months. Bring on the snow yay...

You're better off washing with a good wash/wax; personal preference is meguiar's ultimate wash/wax.

In between washes get yourself a good spray wax and wipe it down with a microfiber; my choice is meguiars ultimate quick detailer. It does a marvelous job. I will wipe my car down with it after I get home from work, and when I leave for work in the morning I can feel that the paint is smoother because of the polymers in this stuff. I use it on the whole car; rims, windows, everything. It's a great product for use between washes and wax jobs; it helps keep that amazing beading action especially on the windows. Washing often can lead to additional swirls as others have mentioned. Another thing to consider is that water finds its way everywhere on your car. Washing extremely often can help lead to rust/rot, especially if you live in Chicago like me where they use LOTS of salt to battle the snow/ice in the winter...just food for thought.
