Vinylex

Last night I treated my dash and doors with Vinylex (Ebony Interior). It was sort of dark in the car so I left an area of my dash untreated to compare the difference in the daylight.

I started by using the California Dash duster to remove the loose stuff. Then simply wiped on the Vinylex using the pretreated wipes.

It looks great! Nice and black, but not shiney like Armor All. Overall I am very impressed with the poduct.

I have read that some people use the CA duster and nothing else. I am a little concerned with the lack of providing UV protection using this procedure. Any thougths?

By the way, when I looked at it in the daylight, I ended up missing a lot of spots .... I will leave the untreated area of my dash alone to get a feel for the longevity of the product. If anyone cares, I will report back.

I use vinylex religously on my previous/current Honda's. I cannot say enough good things about the product. I hate armor all and cannot stand silicon based products as they attract dust and dirt like a magnet. Vinylex forms a protective shell on the dash/doors etc and once dry does not get all over everything.

The key is to apply, let dry, then buff off the excess (if there is any).

Are the wipes better than the spray? I do not think I put enough on (it was dark in the garage too) cause today in the light, seems like it could be better. Will it get shiny if I use too much - I hate that shiny look on my dash. I sprayed some on a micro fiber and wiped it on - maybe it sucked it all in?

The wipes are ok, not very economical. I used one wipe for the dash and then one for each door/inside door trim, another for the front of the dash and center console.

They seem to run dry pretty quick. I put it on pretty thick when each wipe was fresh, then thinner as the wipe was used. I don't think it makes the plastic/vinyl shiny at all, just a nice healthy dark black.

I bought the lexol leather conditioner wipes too. Same issue, each wipe is fine in the first few wipes then I don't think they are effectively applying enough of the product.

California Duster and Orange Pledge. Yep, Orange Pledge works great, smells great, protects well and is inexpensive.

Fry the Dash?

Naples, Florida dealer told me to not put anything on dash because it will just fry it in the sun.

Anyone else care to weigh in on what they use on their Dash and other plastic. Personnaly I think using only the California duster leaves the Ebony dash very dull and sort of dark gray. The Vinylex makes it a nice dark black, not shiney just black. But if it is "frying" my dash?

I used "The Absorber" towel. Because it's moist worked great and made dash like factory new.

i used to use Armor all on my dash, tires, etc. The worse part was using on the dash, it looked very clean but when driving in the sun, all you see on your windshield is the reflection of your dash which is dangerous! Just started using Vinylex since it was made by Lexol and tried out the little $1.50 wipe. Worked great and plan on getting the bigger bottle. Didn't leave any residue or messy oily stuff to get all over your clothes and shines good enough not to reflect.

For cleaning, i use a damp MF cloth. I believe I am removing dust from the dash more than actual dirt or grime.

After that's dry. 303 aerospace protectant. Wipe on, sit for 5 minutes, then wipe off the excess.

Not shiny. 303 leaves a nice matte finish.

I would also add however, not to go crazy with any product: practice moderation. If you use too much product on the dash, you will end up cleaning it off the inside of your windsheild as the sun heats the car's interior.

I just used vinylex the first time this weekend because a customer had a bottle laying around and I had completely forgotten my interior cleaning box of stuff. It worked great, did an awesome job at removing scuff marks from the door and floor boards

I have seen the pledge ruin the plastic trim, giving it hazing and speckeled look.. The owner of this +$100K car thought it wouldn't hurt to wipe down the plastic trim , now if we can't get out the marks, we are ordering new door trim along with the SLR package.... ...

It's your car and I won't tell you what to do, but I just saw this with in the last three weeks and I wouldn't have thought it would have caused damage prior to seeing it in person.
