Very fine scratches

with the daily downpours including one while i type this, i am cleaning off my black tsx all the time. have noticed very fine scratches all over- - they are not visible unless you put your eye right against the car such as when you wash it etc. Is there anyway to avoid these fine scratches when cleaning- have heard it is somewhat difficult to avoid. They are so fine that I would not consider trying to remove them.

Scratches can be avoided or minimized by using the right cleaning process and products. Use something like a soft lambswool mitt or sponge to wash the car, and if possible, use a separate bucket to hold the clean soapy water and the dirty water. Do the wheels and rims last with a different mitt or sponge. For drying, a lot of people recommend using good quality microfiber towels as they tend to scratch much less. You can get some at www.properautocare.com or www.pakshak.com. The Stickies in this thread contain a lot of other good information as well about how to wash and care for your car.

Good luck!

Also, I understand that the right products can actually fill in micro scratches and render them invisible. I believe NXT wax can do that.

I had a similar problem with my CG on the hood and door panels. It's true about the type of sponge to use as well as cleaning and waxing products. I've gotten good and effective results using a terry cloth sponge & Meguire's crystal car wash. For waxing, I like Turtle Wax Liquid wax which took care of the fine scratches.

these scratches are so fine you wouldn't see them unless put eye right against car basically or stare real closely. Some waxes etc will hide them, but that won't make them disappear. Would not use scratch remover for these types of scratches.

Light scratches will only be hidden by fillers. It is best to remove these scratches from the get go. By far you best bet is to pick up a PC and remove these scratches with a light polish like 3M Swirl Mark Remover or Einzsetts MP (Metallic Polish (red can). Dawn wash, clay, MP with an orange pad and finally seal it all in with your favorite wax. Fillers will wear off and your scratches will return. Its best to just remove them.
