Using touch-up paint
Using touch-up paint
I finally found a dealer that had some sundance gold touch up paint in stock! Now, I have a series of stone chips on my hood and front bumper cover that I want to fix.
What procedure should I follow and how do I apply the paint?
How long should I wait to wax, etc.?

I haven't had the 'unfortunate' task of doing this YET. I'm dreading the day. You should be alright though. I think the sundance should blend nicely.
I've heard lots of tricks but the one that seems to make the most sense is to use a tooth pick to fill in the thin lines or tiny dings and chips. I'd be really interested in how this turns out. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Try going to http://www.paintscratch.com. They have full instructions on how to apply touch-up paint correctly. You may want to buy some stuff from them, like clearcoat, rubbing compound, sandpaper. They mix paint to factory specs, as well. I just bought the sandpaper, clearcoat, rubbing compound, and 1/2 oz. of Satin Silver (PERFECT MATCH) from them for like 32 bucks...GREAT SITE!!!
I have pampered my '97 3.0CL Premium throughout its 23,000 miles-long life! BUT... Lord only knows how many times I've had to freakin use touch-up paint on my front end! Is it just my car or is the Cypress Green paint Acura/Honda uses like really soft or something? I don't know what the problem is. Out of everyone I know that drives these same roads up here in WA, I'm the only one w/ this prob. I'm super anal and look for every little minute flaw, but I'm sick and tired of finding knicks in my paint even from the tiniest bugs from freeway driving! Has anyone else had these problems w/ the paint on their car?
Yea....I've heard that Acura switched their paint to DuPont a year or so back....meaning that wouldn't pertain to you, but hey....maybe the stuff in the past was shitty too.
I really like the paint but do see a flaw here or there....no REAL biggie, but still. I'm sure I will continue to see blemishes as they occur along the life of the car.
As for the bugs..you can try a diluted alcohal/water mix. That seems to do the trick if you get it on teh bugger while somewhat fresh.

Hey Maui, I have the same color you do on your CL. Trust me, I have tons of scratches, dings, or whatnot and it sucks. The paint on ur 97 CL is much better than current CL's. We have 3 layers of clear coat while they have only 1 and are more prone to chipping. Oh well....not much u can do for a daily driver car if you want to keep the paint perfect.
Yeah, not much can be done. I hear that. Anyway, though, I have taken and posted some pics of these "blemishes" on my photo page -- they're not that noticeable, but I'm pretty finnicky so at least you can see what it is that I'm bitching about
