using terry cloths

When driving in the rain, often the bottom of car tends to get some dirt that splashes on it. I have started using a wet terry cloth (no soap) to just wipe this dirt off and then dry with microfiber cloth. It rains so much in florida that i dont' want to use soap every time this happens(quite often) Are wet terry cloths ok to use to wipe off the car with rather than using a car wash mitt or sponge?

I'm thinking that the terry will scratch the clear coat. Can't you spray the area with just water in a spray bottle and wipe clean with a MF?

A wet terry cloth wiping a dirty lower rocker panel only equals micro marring and light scratches. Try going to Target and buying a Chennile wash mit and just wet it down and then wipe the area clean and then dry with a MF. Rinse off area first with the hose to remove any road grime.

I live in Florida to and I know what you're going thru. I have to wash ours at least two to three times per week.
