Question Used my UDM for the first time - Now the Questions...

Hey everyone,

Ok, so I got my UDM in the mail last week, finally got a chance to use it on my Dad's car. So many questions came up that I didn't think of until I started to use it. Anyone that can answer some of the questions, would be appreciated

1. The backing plate - it says to only turn one turn once it is "seated". At first I took "seated" to mean that you screw it in just enough that it won't come out. Well, it fell out after one whirl of the machine, haha. So, I screwed it on snug, not tight. Which was is correct?

2. Polish - how much is enough and when are you done?

2a. So, by the looks of the pad when it came time to clean it, I rinsed and squeezed FOREVER and the stuff is still coming out (barely). For instance, for the hood, I reapplied to the pad 4 times, same for the roof, and twice for the trunk. Do I need to use less as I go on since there's still some in there?

2b. So, I used the back / forth, up / down the entire time. How long do I polish till I move on to the next section? If you break the hood up into quarters, how long (in terms of minutes / seconds) should it take?

3. The swirls on the car barely got better, I'm thinking I need to use the orange pad as opposed to the white pad, but I wanted to start lightly. Also, on the Optimum Polish bottle it said you don't need to go above setting 1 - 2 for removing sanding marks, so I had it between 2 - 3. Should I have gone up to about 5?

4. How do you clean those damn pads? Haha. I soaked them in car wash soap, then ran them under the kitchen sink while squeezing / kneeding the pad and I kept getting wax outta the blue pad. The white pad you really had to press hard after a while, but polish was still coming out. I think I need some snappy.

Thanks guys!
