Is this a permanent fix? Because this is just masking the scratches right?

Doesn't the scratches come back after a period of time?

Because doesn't it just fill in the scratches with polish, and once that comes off over time, do the scratches get revealed again?

Correct my knowledge please.

Polishes are essentially abraisives. Polishes don't "fill in" anything - they wear away the top-most layer, bringing the level of the clearcoat down lower to the bottom of the scratches (swirls) rather than filling the scratch up.

You'll get a substantially better result with machine polishing than hand polishing - and never try to do it without claying first!

Here's a good explanation of polishes, and what they do for you:

You have to be a little careful because the word polish has many meanings these days. A true Polish has abrasives in it to correct your paint and there are tons of variations out there. With the correct Polish you can remove swirls and light scratches completely (with the right tools Rotary Buffer, PC, UDM). Then you just want to upkeep the freshly Polished car with a good Sealant & or wax with regular washing. Most people I would say do a complete Detail 2x a year starting with wash, clay, Polish, Sealant & or Wax. The rest of the time in between wash regularly and re-apply sealant about every 2-3 months and wax every 3-4 weeks. Most people put swirls in their paint by washing their cars improperly with dirty sponges etc and or drying them with regular towels from their pantry closet. U can glaze over these swirls with a good wax or glaze that will "Fill in the swirl marks" but in a couple weeks when the wax wears off or evaporates the swirls are again in plain sight. Basically to answer your question....YES there is a difference between removing swirls and light scratches and simply covering them up and both can be done depending on how fanatical you are about your paint. If you are not really interested in doing all that work yourself you should look into getting your car professionally detailed once or twice a year and then focus on the upkeep. Just make sure you ask the detailer what his process is, like all professions some are much better than others! Visit Autogeek.com and Autopia.org also for more info. Be prepared, your head will spin with all the different products on the market and combinations. If you ask a professional detailer for advice on the "Best" combination of products they will most likely laugh and tell you they have many combinations they have developed for different people and diff cars, colors etc so you have to read...read..and read some more. then just start experimenting on your own and find the best combo that works for you.

I have corrected a few like this and without a rotary .. the dark car had a lot of holograms induced by a rotary so don't go diving into one of those as a save all.

And as posted above most of the scratching on both cars wasn't sun damage but wash/dry damage and by the looks of it it was a car wash where the brush was used or the dealer doing it.
