Topping Sealant w/Wax

Alright....I just ordered some detailing stuff and in that order was some Dodo Juice Purple Haze wax. Provided I don't douse my Santa Fe in gasoline and light it on fire between now and when the dry weather returns, my plan is to give it a good clay, sealant and then top it with a coat of the Haze.

My only question is this, how long should I wait before applying the wax on top of the sealant? I'm thinking 24 hours.

I dunno, I think there's a good chance the Santa Fe might not make it through the next month...

But can't you just apply the wax whenever the sealant's done curing? Varies for different sealants, I know.

^^^ yeep .. and I always just wait 24 hours just to be safe. One other mistake people make is the top the sealant with a wax that has some cleaners in it thus removing some of the sealant.

I didn't do it, but chuckle at how many times people used to ask about it...

I just topped a sealant with a nuba today.

Thanks for the responses; humorous, helpful or otherwise.

- AFAIK, the 'Haze doesn't have a cleaner in it. I'm looking forward to trying it because I've heard it smells like grape bubble gum.
- I know wax goes on top of sealant, NEVER the other way around.

Hell I had a guy tell me in a detailing forum that he didn't even have to do anything but look at a car to tell if it needed claying or not.

I asked if he knew how to tell besides "his" visual, never mentioned the baggie test or even just feeling it. He told me I wasn't much of a detailer if I had to use some test to tell. And that I prolly just worked for some dealership selling used cars.

Nothing as long as the nuba doesn't have cleaners in it.

I'd go with 2x a sealant vs. 1x sealant + 1x nuba.......Just my $.02.

Thats my avenue too .. eliminates bonding issues if down the road a bit I want to add another layer of sealant.

So you're saying a sealant can be used in place of a wax?

I used to do only two layers of sealant and call it a season. But now I feel like it needed a wax on top.

Both offer protection and yes it can be used in place of a wax asa wax can be used in place of a sealant.

Why would you get this "feeling" ?

Because in my mind a sealant is a sealant. Sure it has some components of a wax. But if a sealant can do what a wax can do, then waxes are pretty much obsolete. And thus I shouldn't even bother buying wax if a sealant can provide longer lasting protection than a wax. That's what I was thinking.

Wax is a pretty broad term ... myself I have been using sealants for a while and the only time I ever topped them is when I have the look I want with the sealant then I "might" add something like Megs #16 just for added depth and warmth and thta only really works on darker colors.

I always felt as if a sealant puts paint protection in front of aesthetics, and wax vice versa, but they both do both.

Got the car washed and clayed yesterday (Thursday) and threw on a fresh coat of BFWD. Tonight I tossed on the first coat of Purple Haze and so far, the results are very promising. I have never been one to buy into this whole topping sealant with wax but after this, I'm on the verge of becoming a convert. The paint is blatantly shinier and has a dripping-wet look that looks awesome under my garage fluorescent lights and I can't wait to see it in the sun.
