Today’s Amateur Detail

Had a chance to detail a BMW 325i today, beautiful car in a terrible need for a detail, owner had no knowledge in how to properly maintain the paint; she was washing the vehicle with a sponge, and drying with a towel. I gave it a thorough detail and gave her some much needed advice on paint maintence and care.

Here are some pictures;

I would say I got 70-75% of the defects out of the paint, this is what I had to start with...

Thats all guys, thanks

Awesome Turn around! What was your product selection and pad choice etc. How long did it take you? Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the comments guy’s… I have a walk-around video which really shows the reflections it’s a shame I can’t post it, however to answer your question Conan I used the Excel Erasure line pad’s in conjunction with; Optimum Compound (yellow), Optimum Polish (white), Four Star UPP (red).

If you do decide to go with a UDM, you won’t be disappointed, make sure your in contact with Excel for some pad’s and polish’s

Whoa, I thought it was just me and lack of sleep the night before , care to explain why it’s so difficult to correct? Is it how the clear coat is made up?

I've done a few BMW's and it seems that the CC is just super hard. In fact, I wont do another until I get some rotary skills down. I think there are some threads over on Autopia that explains the how and why better. Im sure others here might have better insight as well.

She must be a very good friend to get her car brought back to life like that.

I'm still looking for the pics of the "amateur detail". I can only see the "professional detail" pics.

The BMW "jet black" tends to be very soft and a pain in the @SS to correct. The "black sapphire" is harder and more detail friendly.

Very nice work! Hats off to you...........Its not so bad when you have a nice product selection to go with as well. The Excel-Erasures and Optimum are wonderful products to work with, and the UDM aint too bad either!
A word on black paint...........I friggin hate it..........lol
As for Bimmer black, its been a handful for me also. Its real hard to use anything but yellow/orange and white with that CC. You really need firm pads to abrade the abrasives.
