Tires - what is this?
Anyone have this on their tires? Any idea what it is or how to remove it? I've tried giving a good wipe down with a sponge (I got an old ratty sponge I use to clean my wheels with), and it doesn't come off. I use the spray on tire black stuff if you're wondering what I use on my tires.
Just curious since I've seen it on my last car, as well as this one. I thought it might be some leakage from bad tire/rim contact, but I seem to have this on almost all my tires and the tires aren't losing pressure faster than normal...
Any idea guys?

I use this to clean my wheels. Just a quick spray before hand, and then a quick wash down with a sponge afterwards. Then I just whatever tire black spray on is on special at the auto store. (not really loyal to a particular brand).
Hmm...interesting though - I used this same stuff on my old wheels...could it be the tire cleaner doing it? Maybe I should just stick to sponge and leftover car wash detergent?

[Solvent-based silicone dressings - usually a clear greasy liquid, (Dimethal (DMS) that contain petroleum solvents as a cleaning agent, they remove the elasticity from vinyl, rubber and paint; causing them to evaporate out of the substrate, leaving behind a dry inflexible surface. The difference between water and solvent based is in the carrier system used. Solvent based products use a hydrocarbon silicone to suspend the product. When you apply it, the solvent evaporates leaving the dressing's active ingredients (silicone oil) behind; this type of silicone is also not biodegradable. Most high gloss products are based upon DMS silicone oil.

Thats the stuff I use.. but I haven't notice any weird side effects from the usage of the product. So my next question is, how long do you leave it on the tires/rims for?
I barely let them sit for over 30seconds (thats personal taste).
hmm...good question. It's more than 30 seconds - that's for sure. It takes about a minute or two to spray all 4 wheels. Then about a minute or two to grab the hose and fire up and spray the wheels. I'd say that it would possible that it sits on there for up to 5 mins. I know it's kinda long. Maybe I'll just stick to a sponge after I'm done with this bottle of wheel cleaner...
did you try wesleys bleache white?
spray the tires wit that and scrub them to try to get if off...
i noticed that after I use dressing for a while overtiem the dressign will "coat" the tire and ill spray Wesleys Bleach White on the TIRES ONLY and see if that gets rid of your marks...good luck
