Tire dressing. Yay or Nay

Does anyone eles like the look of just natural rubber with a lil bit of shine. I noticed I have not been shining the tires on my TL and the TSX. I actually like the look.

Dressed.

If you don't like the Wet Shiney Black, there are some products that are more Matte/Semi-Gloss.

I've found if you use the "Wet Shiney" looking stuff in MODERATION, it doesn't look over-done, but looks more "like new".

There are water based dressings that give tires a matte, satiny finish rather than a shiny, reflective look like that of a silicon based type. A dressing will provide protection against brake dust and other contaminants as well as keeping the rubber from drying, cracking and fading.

Most over the counter products will sling off onto the side of the car. I've been using Poorboys world Bold N Brite. It keeps my tires clean/shiny and never slings onto the car. Dressed tires and wheel wells are the finishing touch to a nice detail.

Check the sponsor for some good tire dressings that won't sling off on your car.

Yep, I'm doing exactly the same with the same product.

Doing your's that way, I bet the Meg's doesn't sling either.

I am using the Meguiar's Wet Look too and like it alot. I think it gives a finished look to any car. It seems silly to make a car look so good via wash, wax and polish without insuring the tires look good too. It's almost looks like you forgot something if the tires are shiny. Hey, when they deliver cars, they make the tires shiny !!! But I think Meguiar's does have the a sling factor. It did on my Sebring convertible. But there's not as much with my TL Type S-probably because the fender splash guards cover more territory underneath the quarter panel. This doesn't allow so much sling from the Meguiar's Wet Look.

First things I did after bringing the car home from the dealer were check the oil and remove the wet look from the tires

Been using Aerospace 303 on tires for a nice matte look. Very easy to apply, once the tires are clean

Tires and wheels stay clean enough with just carwash and a beating with the pressure washer.

I like to apply the tire dress 15-20 mins before i wash my car. I put the stuff on in a slightly heavy uniform fashion, and when i wash the car, it settles down to a nice jet black semi-gloss. Tires look new, not like they have been soaked in oil.

As long as the tire doesnt have that "just jizzed on" look, I'm all for dressing. I've mostly been using Poorboys tire dressing, but recently I've picked up a bottle of SC Garage Beyond Black from Excel and I really like the look of it. Has even a more matte finish then the PB. Im just testing the longevity now...

Even if you scrub clean a tire, the rubber can still have that grey, ashy look to it. I just dont dig that at all.

I think tire dressing is a necessary when washing a car. I've seen many times where someone would clean there car but doesn't bother cleaning/dressing there wheels nor tires. Ruins it imo. I like the shiney look, IMO the reason why people have problems with tire dressing slinging is b/c they don't wait long enough after they apply the tire dressing to the tires. Gotta let em dry up.

Most the clear dressings can be silicone based and never really dry thus the slinging if you don't wipe them down well after applying .

The white ones are water based and given a chance will dry and the chance of slinging is a lot less.

Not much sense in dressing a dirty tire either .. Occasionally I use Whesleys Bleech Wite to cleanthe crud and old dressing off the tire to give it a fresh start.

Just keep it away from non-cleared wheels as it will haze bare Alloy.

I use the hot shine too.. i put it on with the sponge and the wipe the tires off with a damp towel. that works the best for me, no sling off and keeps a nice shine
