Tar all over the sides!

I've got tar all over the sides of my NBP TSX . Detail shop wants to charge me $70. Should I or is this something I can do myself? If I get it done, I might just bring it to the dealership just to be on the safe side but I think it will be even more expensive.

Can't you use a can of the tar remover stuff you can buy at an autoparts store? And then just do a full clean and detail and it should all be good.

I believe I still have a can somewhere at home but I might just buy one. I will probably give it a shot. It will be a lot of work because the tar's just everywhere.

I agree. Get a bottle of bug and tar remover (at Wal-mart, or any car store) and remove it yourself. Do it when you can wash the car if you have a lot on it, and then wax when done. You will save about 60-65 bucks.

Maybe ask fdl how he got the asphalt off his TSX.

Use clay after the tar remover.

The place to find answers to this specific question is autopia.org. Register, then go to the Autopia University forum and describe the problem.

If you want a over-the-counter product to remove the wax, try Stonier's Tarminator or the corresponding Turtle wax product. You'll need to re-wax the car afterwards.

All gone! I bought Turtle Wax's Bug and Tar remover. Much cheaper than the $70 the detailing shop wanted to charge me.
Thanks again!

I was going to suggest that he try Pinnacle Tar Remover next.
