Surface scratches - argh..

Hello all,

I'm really frustrated here. Is there ANYWAY to avoid surface scratches? I'm talking about really faint ones that you only really can notice when the light is hitting the paint right. Anyway's, I washed the car with a good wash mit (made sure it was super clean), then I dried the car with a Waffle Weave towel that I purchased from Patrick at Excel Detail. What am I doing wrong? Will surface scratches automatically pop up when you're drying the car, or can they be completely avoided all together?

Also, is there a really quick remedy for this issue? I do have some Scratch Out by Kit (yellow bottle), which I'm sure will remove them with complete ease, but it leaves residue on my freshly washed car. Anyway's, if anyone has some advice, that would be great.

Lastly, it seems like if I wax my car with something like Z-AINO (all in one - polish, cleaner, sealant?) they disappear. Is that kind of a wax actually removing them, or is it just simply covering them up?

Any advice/tips would be great!

Jeff

Man I can't believe no one responded to this yet? Everyone must be on vacation ha.ha.! Ok In my opinion no there is no way to completely avoid getting light scratches on your paint. Even the most sensitive care will eventually marr the paint. I have marred a freshly polished car while buffing off wax with a microfiber towel before. Black cars are the worst. I have not used Zaino AIO but I have used similiar products. Some AIO's do have some very light correcting abilities and can remove very light scratches and some others have filling abilities that will hide the spider webbing and some have both qualities. I recommend that you look into a wax product that works good at filling like a glaze to hide the imperfections until your next polish. There really is no other option otherwise you would be polishing your car monthly and within a couple years your clear coat would be gone.

Surface "perfection" maintenance, is nearly if not impossible. ESPECIALLY on dark colored vehicles. Try try try, as best as you may, and you still induce marring, with even the softest, luxurious towels. Chances are its not the products your using, but more "what" your wiping into the paint.
Here are some tips to help minimize, marring.
  • Keep surface pressure with all applicators, drying towels, and microfibers to a minimum, also, avoid using the edges of any of those as well.
  • Pre rinse/pre treat the surface before washing/no rinse washing.
  • When using quick detailing products, try "rolling" the MF when wiping the product off.
As for your paints current status, I have had good luck with Danase Wet Glaze....
I'd appreciate additional comments......
