spider streaks from detailer

i just had my 2 week old tsx detailed by a "professional" today . it was washed, clayed, polished (trunk only), and teflon sealant. When I came back home today, I looked at it under the garage door light and saw many spider streaks all along the car.
Are the spider steaks something that is generally inevitable and i'm just being too anal? Im very careful washing my car, using what you recommond with the 2 bucket, wool mit, waffle towel system.
Also, to remove spider streaks from the car, i know you use polish, but will it hurt the a 2 week old paint? what should I do, I definally won't be going back to that detail shop again. Thanks for all your help!!

Oh, and a side question, when you dry the car with a waffle towel, should I dampen the towel before I dry it or is it perfectly safe to use a dry waffle?

You said that the trunk only was polished. Was the whole car clayed, or was just the trunk clayed ?

From what I am gathering so far, DO NOT GO BACK TO THAT PLACE TO FIX THE PROBLEM !! They lack the skills, and will just mess it up more.

thanks for the quick reply,
the whole car was clayed, and only the trunk was polshed because of some minor scratches.

To try to comfort your worries -

Because the defect is only noticable under certain lighting, I am guessing that they micromarred the finish (most likely while claying). But, like you said, polishing by a skilled detailer will be able to correct the defect. And, the paint does not sound like it was permanently harmed. The fact that the paint is factory-fresh is not a factor. Factory paint comes from the factory fully cured. So, factory fresh paint is NOT fragile just because it is fresh.

Do NOT attempt to polish it yourself. Ask around (perhaps on this forum) for recommendations to find a SKILLED detailer.

It's fixable, and try not to worry too much.

And a word of advice, the next time someone mentions teflon, make sure you're in Williams-Sonoma and not at an automotive detailer.

Teflon, Duralube, turbonator, etc should all be stricken from the automotive industry.

The answer to your side question, no, it will absorb standing water. One technique to use is rinse without any hose attachments and let the water sheet over the surface. This will minimize the amount of water left on the vehicle. Place the towel over the wet areas, let it absorb and pull the towel over it. For the sides, fold towel in half twice, gently dab on the residue and fold over after each section. May sound like a tedious process, but gets it done pretty quick.

Sorry to hear how you got a half-ass job on the detail. As most mentioned, it is fixable - just gotta find the right pro. Whenever clay is used, it should be followed up by using a using a light polish or pre-wax cleanser and then a final application of sealant. Can't help you out as far a detailer goes - sorry. I'm sure someone from the SD/SoCal area will chime in.

San Diego, let me see...nothing on the OT list, however here are two from L.A

SoCal, LA area

Jose Fernandez
Superior Shine Mobile Auto Detailing

www.superiorshine.com
joe@superiorshine.com

Patrick Smith
Excel Detail
2060 E. Ave de Los Arboles #D662
Thousand Oaks, CA
805-374-8685

patrick@exceldetail.com

Of course Patrick is exceldetail on this forum. He's an awesome detailer, so if the drive isn't too bad I'd recommend him very highly.

You've received good replies in this thread, I'd definitely consider getting it done correctly. If the detailer you used marred the finish with clay it's hard to say what else they may have done incorrectly.

Jackie, I was gonna mention Patrick, but he's NW of LA, Ventura County, I think. Maybe too long of a commute, considering the cost of gas. I dunno.

Maybe on a nice weekend take a little cruise up there. I think it'd be worth it, then again I'm crazy.
