Something for you WDP guys
You all know the issues with the paint match on the WDP especially the rear bumper. Well when I first got my car in the spring of 06 I noticed it right off the bat. The week after I got it I started my detailing on it and step one was clay barring it.
When I was done to me the mismatch looked less, not gone but less, I wrote it off as imagination and wishfull thinking.
Last spring when I clayed it again .. same thing .. looked less.
Well in the last few days I started my spring claying and I set up a 1000W halogen tower and a 500W halogen single head at floor level. From the side/back I could really see the missmatch but after claying the rear fenders, back of the trunk lid and the rear bumper the mismatch was less noticable.
One thing I did do was use new yellow clay and I broke it in 2 pieces and one I used for the metal and one for the plastic.
The one for the plastic bumper showed a lot more of a black tinge where the metal were showing a hint of brown.
The bumper did have a good amount of brown rail dust just like the metal panels did.
The only thing I can think of is that the bumper being plastic and having flex agents in the paint may absorb or some how attract the exhaust carbons.
The car is and always has been equally polished and sealed the same all over.
I'm going to make a reminder to clay 1/2 the rear bumper mid summer to see if I can see this again.
