Scratched Bumper.....

I just got my 2003 Type-S 4 days ago and already someone scraped my front bumper. The plastic didnt scrape too bad but the paint came off in a couple spots. Is there anything out there that would help seal it so the it wont peel? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, I think you will have to either get it professionally repainted (body/detail shops may be able to airbrush some paint and smooth it out) or buy some touchup and try to do it yourself. The touchup paint seems to only look okay on small chips and stuff.

Sorry to hear about the scrapes, and on a new car!

thanks gsrblack. I just ordered some touch up paint but it'll
take 2 weeks for the paint to arrive. I'll be making a long drive from Atlanta to South Florida next week. Will it be ok to drive such a long distance with the scrapes or would it peel off or worsen the situation?

That's tough to say. I know that before, people did complain about our paint peeling on the bumper from chips and all that. I would think that if you run your hand through the scrapes, does it flake off? If it does, it might peel off at high speeds. My guess is that you'll be okay. I'm not sure how much it would cost to refinish the bumper...to strip and repaint will probably cost somewhere like $500 I'm sure (to have it done right). Maybe it's less though.

I've had some small rock chips, but I had touchup paint to cover it right away. Plus, I also use a nose mask on my long trips. However, even the car bra does some paint scratching (and that's the factory one!). There are some links around here with that problem as well.

Good luck with the paint. Maybe you can call some other dealers and they might have your paint color. Enjoy your drive to FL!

i read about the 3m clear bra. it's invisible and must be professionally applied. i called a few places and they quoted me around $600 (parts and labor) for front bumper, hood and mirrors. since i park on the street my car gets bumped every day (front and back). i thought about it for a while and decided that instead of wasting money on this, or paying $200/month for garage parking, i'll better save and get my bumper repainted if it gets too bad. meanwhile i'll just touch up little scratches and chips that are unavoidable in philly. it maybe worth the money for someone who parks in the garage and does a lot of highway driving. this stuff allegedly gives you great protection against rock chips. just my $0.02

I got the 3m clear bra bumper hood and mirrors for $400.

It is invisible and the protection against rocks and other idiots banging into your bumper in parking lots is worth the money.
