Scratch!!

I have had my TSX for two weeks, I woke up today and found a scratch under the driver door handle! Its about 8 inches in length, barely noticeable and not that deep, but its there. How can I get this out? Th dealer is supposed to buff some other scratches out, will he be able to buff out a scratch this long? Please help, my baby is too new for a scratch!!

I dunno, I wouldn't want the dealer buffing out scratches for me, but that is just me. Why don't you try buffing it out yourself? Start out with gentler waxes/products, see if that works, if not progressively move to stronger abrasives.

This is a good product, others will chime in as well:

Scratch X

Scratch repair.

If you can drag the edge of your fingernail across the scratch and feel a "ridge", the scratch is probably through the clearcoat and will be more complicated to repair.

Most dealerships contract with good detailers that take care of scratches that occur on the lot and I would ask them to have the scratch repaired.

Bottom line: if you think the car was damaged at the dealership, let them take care of it. If you try to do it yourself and botch the job, the dealership will probably refuse responsibility.

I would agree. I just picked up an '02 TLS from a local dealer and after i inspected the car, there were quite a bit of rock chips and scratches that i wanted fixed before i agreed to purchase the car. The salesman agreed and i am bringing it in tomorrow for paint repair and a detail job. You're probably best off doing the same unless you are certain that the scratch is not deeper than the clearcoat. ScratchX or another type of fine cut rubbing compound will do otherwise.

Both of you are right, but the detailer is different for various dealerships. To be safe, you can ask who the dealer's detailer is and if you can see examples/recommendations of their prior work.

He said the scratch is barely noticeable and not that deep, so scratch x or even something gentler may work.

So I took it to the dealer, and he got the scratch out . . .along with the clearcoat all around it

Good news is, I am bringing it back next week so they can re-paint the whole door, and then it will be like the scratch was never there . . . I hope!
