Rim cleaning product advice!

Hey guys,

I need to get a decent rim cleaner for my 07 TSX (OEM RIMS). The only thing is, I don't have a hose readily accessible, so I have to rely soley on my 1 gallon mister/sprayer unless I go to the local coin OP. Since my car hasn't been too dirty lately, I've just been using the ONR to clean the rims. It does a good job, but I'm thinking that I should probably be using a dedicated rim cleaner - or am I totally wrong? I guess my question is, will the ONR clean SUPER dirty rims and brake dust?

Lastly, if I were to use something like a rim cleaner, would the 1-gallon mister/sprayer rinse the rims good enough?

Thanks much!

Jeff

What I have done in the past when my wheels got ridiculously dirty...which doesn't happen very often.

I pre-treated with ONRW to break up the dirt.

Let it sit about 10 minutes.

Then sprayed a little wheel cleaner for 30 seconds and then started washing with ONRW and sponge.

Anyways...that's what I did and worked great.

Sprayer doesn't have enough "power" to clean your rims for you.

You need to let the chemicals loosen the dirt to a point where you are not scrubbing the dirt off.

Let the product do the work.

I don't know what the best wheel cleaner is to use.

Somebody else could probably chime in on that.

There has been a bunch of wheel cleaning threads but I haven't paid much attention to them as of yet.

On a rim cleaner , I think your totally wrong ... I never use a rim cleaner on my wheels. The only time they are necessary is if you neglect your wheels and regular car wash soap won't remove the dirt.

A rim cleaner is going to remove any protection you have on the wheels in short order. And some can be harsh on the clearcoat.

Wash often with the tail end of your wash solution and use a dedicated mitt for the wheels.

I like that idea. I put DG 105 on my wheels before I put them on the car. Hopefully with normal frequent washes everything rinses away easily

I like to use the Chemical Guys Sticky Wheel Gel.

However, my wheels are pretty well maintained so I use the Chemical Guys Premium Blue wheel cleaner instead which is for maintenance-type washes.

This brings up a question for me. I recently put on some pads that enhanced braking, but increased dust (even tho they claim low-dust). Anyways, I was using rim cleaners heavily and now have the clear coat visibly peeling off. Am I screwed? Can a place fix that for me? I will post pics if needed.

Think its something I can mask with a layer of wax? Im kinda pissed off about it, they're pretty pricey to replace.

I think your only option would be to have the wheels recleared. What is your intention by layering it with wax?

The horse is already out of the barn ... if they were pricey you should have looked after them in the first place. Sorry ..

Most wheel cleaners contain biodegradeable products which are totally harmless to CC'd wheels WHEN USED AS DIRECTED.....
Never use on hot wheels, avoid using in direct sun (when possible), never let product dry, pretreat with water to dilute wheel cleaner, rinse thoroughly.

Well its only happening on one wheel, so maybe the wheel cleaner isn't to blame. I spray the tire and wheel and let sit for no more than a minute or two.
