removing scuff mark from door?

I don't really know a lot about this stuff, I guess you would call this a scuff on the paint?

In the pouring rain and with my arms full last night, when pushing my door shut i rubbed the edge of my remote keyfob in my hand up against the passenger door, and now there is a 3'' mark on it that varies in consistancy, much of it is just light but a few little spots are dark gray from the fob rubbing it. I came out this morning and looked at it and instantly was like oh sh*t. It's visible from about 7-8' away. I don't see any white, I don't think it got down to the paint...

It wouldn't come off just by rubbing it with a wet micro towel. No luck with a pencil eraser either.

Should I try using some rubbing or polishing compound? I'm not very savy on this stuff and don't know what would be best to use. The spot isn't huge but it'll drive me nuts. But at the same time all the car care products and stuff is a bit overwhelming. At least it's on the passenger side, and it was my own dumb fault.

If you have any "polish" (a light abrasive) give that a shot with either a sponge/foam applicator or microfiber towel. Apply a fingernail (pinky size) in the direction of the scratch (scuff). Keep pressure on until you see/feel some improvement. Wipe clean with microfiber, then seal.

Just stay away from the likes of Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound etc ..

Is this the same as a "finishing compound"? Not as abrasive as rubbing compound?
