Question A quick waxing process question...

What do you all recommend using when waxing up to an edge (like rubber around sunroof) or around a head/tail light?

Right now I use a wide PLASTIC putty knife and run my applicator up to it, pick it up and move to next location. But I would like to know what the professionals do.

Also:

I've never clayed a car, but really want to try it. I am thinking about Meguiar's Quick Clay Detailing System, is this one pretty good for a novice who may clay a car twice a year?

When I do a full detail (meaning with the PC) I'll mask off trim, head/tail lights, etc. Makes it easier to apply the topcoat as well since the tape is there. Otherwise, I just try to be careful, and am sure to remove any product right away.

The Meguiar's clay should be perfectly fine. You'll be really pleased with the results. I'd recommend reading up on the process - autopia.org, detailcity.org, and any number of other detailing sites - ahead of time just so you're confident. Good luck!

Like Vroom said, either tape it off or be careful when applying any sealant/wax especially around rubber/vinyl pieces. Wipe off immediately. Most times, you'll be aware of that situation and will take the proper precautions.

For claying, refer to this thread. The Megs system, Mothers or Clay Magic will work just fine and these are available OTC at Pep Boys, AutoZone & Kragens.

Thanks for the info. Hell, I may be tempted to clay my car this weekend when I am planning to wax it, weather permitting.
