Quick Detailers

Anyone have an opinion on Mequiars QD versus their Ultimate QD? What's the diff, other than cost?

Thanks.

After a quick read on their website it looks like the Ultimate withstands washes and repels water where as the regular quick detailer is just a quick detailer.

I used them both and I refer Ultimate QD because it's prove a better water repel ( I believe that water repel will wear off after 1-1.5 week if it rains a lot then 4-5 days ). it's worth for some extra dollars .

Tried the UQD - seems to be easier to apply/buff out. But the big difference is that it doesn't seem to attract as much dust (my car is black).

If that's true, I'm sold.

I tend to use the regular quick detailer to clay bar and UQD after wash.

I now use clean wash water as a lubricant for the Clay Bar:

1. Wash panel as usual.

2. Rinse

3. Soap it up again with the soapy wash water.

4. Use the Clay Bar (no pressure, just motion)

5. Rinse

Why use expensive detailers when you already have a lubricating liquid in the wash bucket?

PS: My TL is dark blue and has NO swirl marks even after 165K miles.

I think Megs Ultimate Quick Detailer is probably the best quick detailer you can find at your local store. Easy on/off, great shine and water beading. Definitely worth a couple extra dollars

In general, water makes for a poor lubricant for a claybar. This is a clear way to create marring. Soapy water is a much better option.

Agreed...

Step 3 says use SOAPY water to coat the panel, then the Clay... (step 4)

As usual, you will develop a feel for the clay bar. Once it starts to drag, its time for more soapy water. I do one panel or area at a time. And I knead the clay to provide a "new" cleaning surface, constantly.

And, this is key: NO PRESSURE. Paint is SOFT.

I do that sometimes as well but Walmart was selling their 32oz Meguiars Quick detailer for $5. I couldn't pass that up.
