Question for multistep polishing

So if I were to polish a car that with a medium cut polish w/ an orange pad, and I want to finish if off with a ultra fine polish with a ultra fine pad, would I have to rewash or do an alcohol wipe down of the whole car when I'm done with the medium cut polish before I can go about using the ultra fine polish?

Depends on the polishes. Menzerna polishes according to those I know who have used them, do contain a small amount of fillers, There are also some Meguiras products which carry fillers. If you want to be 100% certain WYSIWYG, then use a 50/50 alcohol/water mix, then wipe......

I'm using Menzerna polishes. I guess my main concern is if I don't wash/alcohol wipe down after the medium cut polish, would there still be some left over microscopic polish residue from the medium cut polish that would affect the finishing polish?

Oh, and another off topic question. After claying the car before polishing, is it okay to leave the quick detailer/clay lube on the paint? Or should the car be washed again?

No problem, they are made to use in succession.

No need to wash, just wipe!

I just helped a friend out on his black '95 BMW and did an IPA wipedown after each panel. Even Meg's 205 with a green pad (a little aggressive but the white wasn't getting it done), hid the holograms. The IPA stripped the oils (and fillers) and allowed me to see that a second, finishing step was necessary.

What's IPA? Is it Isopropyl Alcohol?
