Question about treating glass

How do you guys treat the windshield and other glass? Do you clay it with the rest of the car? Do you apply the same sealant or do you use a separate finish for glass? Does anyone use Rain-X anymore? Can you use it in combination with other sealers?

Looking to detail the new baby this weekend and came up with questions I've been meaning to ask.

Thanks for the help.

Ken

You can apply some the OTC glass protection products, but as for treating? Well theres really no "treating" glass. Its impervious to most materials. All your doing is applying a coating which over time will disintegrate. Frequent applications of products like RainX can help deter chatter on front windshields, and disallow insects from adhering.
Claying is always a good idea, but use your "old" clay for that. Twice annually is the average.

Thanks Patrick. By treating I meant applying products like UPP. Would UPP or the One-Grand Glass Cleaner provide the same results as Rain-X as far as rain beading up, or should I just stick with the Rain-X?

I use whatever wax or sealent that i'm using on the car.

last detail I used the FS UPP and just went right over the windshield and windows with my PC. makes them very slick and water beads up and runs right off like a champ. hardly have to use my wipers when driving in the rain unless its under 50mph.

I dont really recommend using waxes or sealants, as they contain oils which can attract dust. If you find it works for you, then so be it. But as a detailer, and teacher, i just dont recommend it. I would hate to have the application have adverse effects.
The products made for glass i.e. RainX etc, have so much alcohol in the mixture, the majority of oils dissipate and dust adhesion isnt reall an issue.

Nothing better.............
"Customers have shared with us that they were at the point of replacing glass that was severely water spotted and they used PASTE GLASS CLEANER and cleared the glass."
