Question about claying windshield.

I have the mothers clay kit, is it safe to use the quick detailer spray that came with it as the lubricant on my windshield? Thanks.

also, try and use an old clay bar, cause the one you use on the windshield shouldn't then be used on paint.

I have a huge ball of old clay I save for glass and wheels

and yes, i'd use the QD that came with it.

OK... I'll bite...

Why clay the windshield??? I understand for the paint... Once you've clayed the glass even once (for whatever reason) why would you need to do it again?

Sorry if a NOOB question.... But I'm new to the clay action...

THANKS!

Claying in general shuold be done about twice a year or so if needed. The windshield is just as exposed to fall out, and many other contaminants as the paint is. Claying is a very effective way to clean the windshield and wheels as most wash cloths wont be able to "grab" most of these contaminants. As CLPower said, save fresh clay for the paint and then use old clay for wheels and the windows.

Actually, for the clay lube used on windows i would use a light mix of car wash soap and water. I have even used some mild glass cleaner for lube on the windows when claying. The reason I might not want to use any of the quick detailers for lube is sometimes most of those contains a good amount of oils for paint and will smear and will be hard to get off the windshield. I dont think using the qd for the window is a bad idea, but a waste. Save the quick detailer for the paint and just put car wash soap and water in a spray bottle for the clay lube.

Another note about claying the windshield, ever have stuck on bugs, tree sap or bird poop that seems like they dont want to come off with a wash cloth?? Claybar is VERY effective up cleaning up these stuck on messes.

Okay thanks everyone. I actually already clayed my windshield using the QD before posting my question. I was just wondering if it was unsafe to use the QD. When I go home I'll give it an extra cleaning with Stoners.

Reason why I clayed the windshield....water spots.

Thanks again.

So after claying the windshield...will water stick on the windshield? or will it sort of bead off nicely.... I don't want water to stick on my windshield when its raining...

Give the windshield a good cleaning then apply a sealant to it to make the water bead. I clayed my windshield applied Klasse AIO and Zaino Z2. My window is still beading nicely after two months. Or you can use RainX as well.

my experience with rainx is that it doesn not last very long!!!

Yes, I will clay bar my car and windshield as well...a mix of soap and water makes good sense.(or car wash soap)

I think claying the windshield is useless. I dont see any benefit at all. I've never done that, if i've ever had any issues on the windows i've used steel wool, and that works fine. IMO, claying a windshield a waste of time.

i had a ton of small spots on my windshield (almost like it dust that was stcuk on). i tried washing it off, but nothing. i clayed my windshield and it came right off. so it was worth it to me.

yes, but a steel pad does risk the chance of scratching (done it myself)

Claying does do a great job, it's the same theory of doing it to your paint, contanimants stick to the class. Give it a shot yourself before you say it'd be a waste of time.

but be warned, if you have an old windshield you'll notice all the little chips after claying

I've done steel wool a TON of times, and never had any problems. just have to be sure that you use enough glass cleaner, and you ll be fine.

I used RainX for a while but now I prefer a little light wax (currently NXS), works great, never used clay on the glass. seems pretty clean, the light cleaners in the wax seem to remove anything on the glass.
