Polymer - how do I layer it?

This is what was written on a pinned topic at the top of the forum, regarding Polymers -

What is layering?
Layering is a process is which you apply another coating of polymer on top of the one you already applied. Each subsequent layer can be applied for a shorter period of time, about half the time of the previous layer. The advantage is that you get more and more protection with each coating. You also get more and more shine with each application. For example do the first coat for 24 hours, then the 2nd coat for 12 hours, 3rd coat for 6 hours, etc.

I'm confused what the above means.... Does this mean apply a coat, and then wait 24 hours, to apply a second coat, and then wait 12 more hours to apply a third coat?

I can't find where you see the 24/12/6 info but rule of thumb is wait a minimum 24 hours between layers.

I typically wait 24 hours regardless what coat it is, but often find you reach a point of diminishing returns after 2 or 3 coats.

Apply your first coat, remove it, wait 24 hours for the polymers to properly cure and bond to the paint, then apply your second coat, remove it, wait 24 hours...

Some sealants won't benefit from another layer, but I feel it's always good practice to get two coats of anything on there, primarily for even and full coverage of your vehicle. If a product has any cleaners in it, then there is no benefit of layering.

Keep in mind same rule applies if you are putting a carnauba wax over a polymer sealant, you still want to give the sealant 24 hours cure time before topping it with a wax.

Hope this helps.
