Polisher
Polisher
I bought the Meguiars DA Microfiber correction kit, but i don't think it can cut enough? it still left some marks. So i was wondering whats a more aggressive polisher that's fool proof? the detail with the Meguiar was my first one, so i'm still in the learning process.
Also, is it safe to attempt the detail again? (i did my first detail about a month ago)

Think of this like sanding wood.
You just said you used a Black and Decker sander to sand wood but it's not smooth enough.
First question would be what grit sandpaper did you use and for how long?
In terms of paint correction, what pad and polish did you use and for how long and on what setting on the polisher?
The tool really doesn't matter much as long as it's a Random Orbital polisher.
What really matters is the pad aggressiveness and polish aggressiveness combined with how long/hard you worked it.

OP, maybe ask the person who sold you the kit what the equivalent pads would be from, say, Lake Country?
You are looking for colors like Yellow (aggressive cut) Orange (less aggressive than Yellow) White (mild) Gray (no cut) etc...

I have the pc 7424XP. and also, is it safe to go and do the detail on more time? maybe i didn't work on it long enough?
also this kit is made specifically to work with a microfiber pad, is it okay to use just regular foam pads?

it because with the PC you have to do a lot more multiple passes, I practiced 2 weeks straight on a hood i bought from the junkyard with a rotary polisher and my time was almost 3 times faster than with a PC.
but with a rotary you have to always keep moving and cant go over 2000 rpm unless you want to burn paint

Yes you can use the megs compound/polish with foam pads but you would be MUCH better off using megs m105/m205 with a orange pad...
Do you have a link to said pad so we can take a look at it? Or is it a bonnet?
Most have said you need the speed at 4 or 4.5 with the cutting pad and 3 with the polishing and need to make at least 2 passes to get the desired cut...But from what I have heard and seen it works GREAT...Thats why I bought a kit was to try it out myself...
Also the polish and compound that come with MF DA kit are meant to be used with the MF pads...They will work with a foam pad but you would be alot better off to use M105/M205...And vice versa...You can use other compounds and polishes with the MF pads but they wont work as WELL as the compound and polish that come with the kit...

Do the MF pads fit on other backing plates?
The MF pads will fit on any backing pad...The ONLY difference is the hook and loop is tighter and smaller then on your typical backing plate...I have heard NIGHTMARE stories from people on the MF backing plates coming apart on them so I will just use the backing plate I have for my foams and deal with it being a bitch to get off the plate...Also with the MF pads you need to pull them off with the back of the pad as apposed to pulling it off from the pad itself...
I figured that since I also have the DA Microfiber kit I should throw in my
.
I read a lot of reviews on this kit before I purchased it and as someone has already mentioned, it has received a lot of positive praise.
I've only done one complete detail with the kit so far, but I'm hoping to use it on my wife's SUV in the next few weeks. I personally loved it, and in my case I was able to remove 95% of the swirl marks in the paint from my TL with this kit and the Griot's Garage DA Polisher. This is basically the same polisher as the PC7424XP with a little more power, but the same speed.
If you read through the directions on the Meguiar's forum or watch the videos at Autogeek you'll note that the speed is very important. The compound should be applied at 4,800 OPM and additional speed is not likely to help with correction. If you are looking for more correction you should apply additional pressure at the same speed and work it in (aka multiple passes). The Porter Cable requires quite a few passes to truly break down the Super Micro Abrasives in the Meguiar's compound.
If I wanted to go back and try for 100% correction I would try the M105 with the microfiber correction discs. I've read that the M105 creates a lot more dust, but that it is the next level in correction.
Since the kit is still fairly new, I have yet to read a review where it has been used with non Meguiar's products, but I'm sure there are guys out there doing it.
It is perfectly safe to go ahead and try again. My suggestion would be to try using a little more pressure, making sure to keep the pad rotating, and take multiple passes in each section. Try working on one section at a time and inspecting your results before moving to the next section to see if you are getting the results you desire.
